LithUnwrap - an alternative mapper?
Blender Creator - blender is a pretty heavy system, and free. Includes a modeler and creation tool, scripting and browser based playback with a modern 3D engine.
Garagegames.com - The Home of Independent Games and Gamemakers and inexpensive and fairly serious game engine. Not useful without programming.
Milkshape 3D - an interesting modeling tool geared to player/avatar creation
A nice MilkShape Tutorial
Yahoo! Groups Animation_Collaboration_Network - an interesting mailing list for 3D animator/film makers

I haven't used it myself... but it looks like a good toolf or the price :)
