Subject: Bump Maps

Hi Everybody: Is it possible to use a .jpg bump map in the Texture Source Editor? Many .jpg texture images come with a corresponding .jpg bump map image and I am wondering how to use them in Bryce. Thanks; Paul

Yes, it can be done. In the materials lab, hit the Image Texture button (labeled "P" for some odd reason) to use a picture texture. Then go into the Texture source editor. Load the standard texture into the first window, then the bump you want to use in the second window. Hit the check mark and it puts you back into the material editor. Set the bump to the texture A value, and set the value to about fifty for starters.... Exit the materials lab and see if it's bumpy enough for you. You may have to play with the number value to get the result you want (the number may be either positive or negitive, BTW). Good luck!

If your image has a transparancy map as well, then you need to set up a second material component in the Texture editor. To activiate a 2nd texture for trans, click on the next empty column over (the first one will have your pic with bump component). Now do like Bladesmith said to switch the 2nd component to picture and load the transmap in the middle box. Now your object will be transparant anywhere the transmap is black (semitrans where grey) Hope that helps :)
