Well, I started modeling the Travis' dragon in Rhino. This is about 3 hours work...I tried to get as much detail as I could in the head this time instead of making something semi-detailed.I started out by drawing three profile curves (Top, Middle, Bottom) to do my loft. Then I shaped it to the rough look I wanted and began to add detail by adding more isoparms (knots) and point editing them as I went.
To get the webbing between the jaws, I simply selected a few of the middle row of points (viewed from the right) and moved them inward (did that in the front view). Then I gave the points a weight of 2 to increase their strength.
Moving on to the nose and eyes, I inserted about six isoparms for each and shaped the nose, making sure to move the center most point inward (again, done in the front view). I applied a weight of 2 to that point also. THe eyes wer simple this time. I simple selected a rough outline of the eye area as seen in Travis' image and then moved them inward. In the Right view, I then scale2D them to shrink the area a bit. The rest was just shaping and point weights.
The horns were seperate lofts, though I should have used spheres because the horn lofts gave me some trouble with their normals when I tried to join everything together. This second post is where the model is now.
I normally work by making the body first, then the head, and then the legs but after seeing Travis' WIP's I just had to see what Rhino could do....
Future plans include a small amount of horns cirvling the eye area a little and of course a body...
