Subject: the end of posing ... ??

Schlabber ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 3:57 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 9:46 PM

Hello, I'm quiete sorry to say that I somehow have lost my power in making poses. In fact I'm feeling really burned out. I think this happens to everyone sooner or later - but at the moment I can't help myself. I'm feeling as if all the poses I make are no longer needed. Perhaps I've really posed to many situations - so there is no scene left to pose ?? Why am I saying this ?? Well - quiete simple ... I asked often enough in the chats what to pose but didn't get any really good answer. In the past some people wrote a mail to me ... asking if I could make this and that pose - hmm, it's been some time since someone did that ... Perhaps it's time to take a break ... At the moment I have the feeling like << mission is done >>. Maybe I should start other projects ... I think I'll not update my website so often as it was planed ... Hmmm - seems like it was a bad week for some of the community-members ... Let's hope everything goes well. Schlabber

How about some Trek specific poses? :oD What I mean by that is the way characters walk on the bridge of a ship (they have that one step to step down in order to sit in their respective seats) as well as the hand movement poses of the crew at their stations.

The holidays can be quiet a strain on some....You know I would like some poses? But they require maybe an object to have the person posed on....what do you think? Are you up to that? Or is that not something you do? I really have lots of poses I would like but they really aren't the conventional ones. Let me know.....go to our web site you will our models that we have.....like maybe the vehicle seciton. If you are interested. Sharen

I could really really really use some raptor poses!!

Huolong ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 4:28 PM

There's still as much a need for facial expressions. Most expression morphs work with some faces and truly distort others. The various faces available on Mike do not travel well on other Mike based expressions...on application, the face reverts to the default Mike.

As DAZ3D sold bicycle and cars, poses for them will be very beneficial and mostly for the bicycle while running. Thanks for your great work.

I would like to see some of the poses from old masterpieces, Venus by Boticelli has been done a lot, but what about Michael Angelo, Raphael, Rubens. :)

...faith, trust and pixiedust

I know what you mean about feeling burnt out, I've found that doing something completly different for a few weeks sometimes helps in getting a new perspectiv on Poser. Push it and it just gets worse.
Anyways I would think the dork and posette would be going into retirement next year and I doubt the new figures will have the same joint setup and divided up in the same way if they are going to evolve. Hopefully the joint problem will be resolved in the next version of Poser making a lot more poses more viable.

jamball77 ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 5:31 PM

While I appreciate the great contributions you've made in morphs and posing. I would hate to see you as an artist stagnate. I for one can't wait to see what you move on to and claim as your own territory. I've written a tutorial for morphing but yours were there first. Yours have 2X as many hits as mine. You just about OWN morphs. I think your tenacity and longevity is an inspiration for the rest of us.

Schlabber - You just need a break; We still need you & your talents, but you have to realize, between the re-opening of your site(s) and your excellent CD, a lot of us are suffering from the Poser equivalant of a multiple-holiday over-eating! - Give us a little time to "digest the feast". Once we're no longer dazed by the bounty, and had a chance to go thru it all & absorb it, we'll start getting greedy again, & the wish-lists and requests will be thicker than ever. I got your CD in the mail last week, & I've hardly scratched the surface of the selection. Take a little time to relax, kick back, & recharge your batteries. Maybe poke around in another aspect of Poser, modeling, or something entirely different. In a few weeks, or perhaps after the first of the year take another look at the situation. You'll likely be bursting with ideas and buried under requests. ;-)) For now, just relax & recharge. (I'm still hoping you'll check out the paintings of Norman Rockwell (popular nostalia painter for numerous American magazines for several decades) at some of the web sites devoted to his work, and do a series of poses based on his works.) G - see; the requests are already starting to stack up! :-))

Traveler ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 5:39 PM

Schlabber, I go through this from time to time. You will come through it, when someone sends you a great idea, or you suddenly get a flash of inspiration. Take a break man, if you keep working while burned out you just get more burnt. (A hard lesson for me to learn) Besides you more then deserve it :) -Trav

Dreamspinner ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 5:58 PM

Yes, take a break my friend! But I will make a suggestion. I see a need for more facial expressions for P4Fem, Male, Mike and Vickie. Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

Schlabber, If you never make another pose, you've already made a fantastic contribution to the Poser Community. I have barely begun to see all the bounty I downloaded from "Posing is an Art," and have not yet had the pleasure of buying your Pose CD. Sometimes you need to hear from others that it is ok to do something for yourself. Do you have any art that you like to do just because it pleases you? Rather than producing something to sell or give away? Do you just need a rest, and time to do other things? Go out and enjoy the sunshine, be with friends and family? Take a rest. Don't even bother to think about all the other stuff... Do what you want, when you want. Then when you're ready to mess with Poser, do something for yourself. Thank you once again for all you've given to us. And if you do go into "semi-retirement," maybe you could at least stop in to say hello once and awhile.

Slynky ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 6:19 PM

I have no clue who you are schlabbler, but it sounds like you have a following. Don't give up man. Take a break by working less, but don't EVER stop working cuz it'll be hell getting back into the game.

Famine ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 6:34 PM

I have to take a break every now and again. I do models for gaming and a lot of dxf work. that find myself so frustrated that I have to shut off the system, and go have a beer at a bar. talk to a few people and eat some food. I find that it helps a lot. everybody loses their creative ability every now and then. given a couple days away from it in your mind will process some more. good luck and have a nice day famine

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 6:57 PM

Hey there, I saw the last post you amde about poses and all and I was swamped at work. That and I felt I didn't want to ask for more. Especially when i don't have the CD and might be doubling up. I think you do great stuff and think you might just need a little break. Everyone does. Plus it will give us all time to make lists of things. ;) Have a good one

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 6:58 PM

I have to agree Egon. I think ya just need a break. Considering the sheer volume of poses that you have created and shared....I am surprised it took you this long to hit the temporary wall. Take time off from the posing. Do some renders. Hell..step away from the computer and take a vacation somewhere nice.

You deserve it. ;o)

Fyrene ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 7:01 PM

Schlabber, the poses you create are always needed!! Just received your cd and love it!! Although I already had many of the poses you created, there are so many more that I did not have. An idea for poses-P4male samurai poses with katana. You have many male poses with swords and knives, but the katana is held and used differently. Tai-chi (sp?) poses, kungfu, karate, lets just say martial art poses for both male and female. P4fem japanese poses. ISO has two beautiful kimonos and the traditional japanese female poses would be great!! Now, I dont have Mil kids, but Thorne just released for free a fairy flyer. How about some poses with kids on that? And I think there are some trikes and bikes out there now of which poses of kids having fun on them would be greatly appreciated, I am sure :) There are some ideas. As far as taking a break, only you know whether you need that. Working on your poses may be what you do for pleasure and enjoyment, and taking a break from it may not be the solution for you. Only you can decide. But whatever you do decide, know that there are a whole lot of people out there that appreciate what you do. hugz Fyrene

Ditto on everyone else...you are the Pose King....I think there's a need for sitting poses.

whitemexican ( ) posted Sun, 18 November 2001 at 10:55 PM

When you feel ready to start posing again if you take a break I know as an efed poser artist. Wrestling poses would be very much appreciated and used by myself and many others.

scifiguy ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 12:46 AM

Wow, we can make requests? Ok, got a few hours? LOL Seriously, I love your poses and until your recent post didn't know you had a whole site of them (although I had some from 3DCC). You've done so many, I wouldn't even know where to begin asking for more! I think what others have said about poses with objects is probably a good direction to go if you feel motivated (and have the objects of course!).

pendarian ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 12:48 AM

Maybe a break is in order Schlabber, personally, I would like to see more Vicki and Mike poses, because even tho' I absolutely love your poses for my p4 characters, they don't help a whole lot with Mike and Vicky. You are a valuable asset to the 3dcommunity and very much needed oh yes for sure :) Perhaps some seated poses, say some that would be used for characters that are sitting on thrones, speaking with subjects that type of thing? Pendy

Philodox ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 2:47 AM

I gotta agree with Pendarian... If you want to keep making poses, why not move on to Mike and Vicki? But if you do need a break, take all the time you need...

Thorgrim ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 7:52 AM

I like deleeuw's idea poses from famous paintings and sculptures would be cool. Also I would really enjoy poses based on some of the fantasy paintings by Frazetta, Ken Kelly, Brom, and Boris. (I especially would like the Frazetta ones as he is my favourite artist). I don't know if that would be a copyright infringement or not but it would make a really amazing pose set. I also think moving to Mike and Vicky is a great idea as well.

Creations ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 8:18 AM

I just bought the Milkids and in desperate need for poses for children and can't find them nowhere!!
Schlabber, your work is great and I hope much more will come. I am not even done downloading the work on your new site! You just need a break and recharge!

robert.sharkey ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 11:14 AM

Egon, There's a big lack of handposes, i'm shure the power will come back to you. And the hands are a field which really needs some posemasters. SHARKEY

Papu ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 11:20 AM

Sclabber I do hope you get your inspiration back! I agree with above opinions, would be great to get more Mike/Vicky poses :)

igohigh ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 4:03 PM

Schlabber: you have done SO MUCH and given SO MUCH, you DISERVE A BREAK TODAY! But Please, Don't 'go away', Don't Stop! You have been a blessing for so many of us and there is plenty to do. But dang, you've pumpped out so much for so long, definately take a break. After a good rest (perhaps even clean through the holiday) it will all seem fresh again. Thanks For All you have done thus far!!!!
