Subject: Desperatly seeking webspace for hosting your freestuff here at renderosity?

Lady Cherry ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 6:41 AM · edited Fri, 02 August 2024 at 1:01 AM

Ok all Im going to be allowing a few people that are here at renderosity some web space on my server! Thing is i only want those that are most desperate for space and they have tried everywhere. I dont want someone that is too lazy to do it. Because i want someone that will maintain thier site and the stuff they are using for freestuff. I will see if i can meet your space demands perhaps a gig max to users that will need it. Also the domain name i have hosted is poserosity.com so you can have your web address whatever.poserosity.com Please let me know if you need webspace and why and i will think it over and add you if appropriate! This is also only an offer to people that post freestuff on RENDEROSITY ONLY! I have a certain love for this place and will not host to anyone giving freestuff or anything else to any other site but this one! -Love Lady Cherry

Very nice of you, I am sure you will have takers...Sharen

Questor ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 8:14 AM

giving freestuff or anything else to any other site but this one While I can understand your motives, please remember that freestuff is given to the community as a whole, not a particular website. I did have quite a bit of freestuff available but couldn't take the bandwidth generated by this site so didn't post into freestuff here. I'm sorry but I feel mildly offended to think that you consider me less of a member of the community because of that.

AprilYSH ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 10:28 AM

Nice of you Lady Cherry! With the non-remote link rules and no-compeition rules, a lot of people will be stranded :) Questor, I don't think it means you are less of a member of the community ... You would have to still assume renderosity stands for community to think that. You are just less appropriate to the aspect of giving to renderosity exclusively. Think on it... you're okay with being that, aren't you? ;)

Why did this turn into an argument? this isnt about moral values or what not! Or being less of a member because you give to other sites thats my guidelines dont twist my wording please. I simply wish to have people that are going to only give stuff to renderosity exclusivly. If you yourself wish to give elsewhere that has nothing to do with this post and you can ignore it please! Otherwise, I host my servers at MIT in cambridge MA and I dont have strict guidlines except for being exclusive here and i see nothing wrong with that for both secure reasons and because of my support of this site! Thank you!

Well Lady Cherry, I think you're being most generous in your offer. It's a wonderful gesture and can only benefit the community. PabloS Not-offended-ologist

Ouch! ScottA steps in front of Lady Cherry to block the food about to be thrown at her ;-) God Bless You Lady Cherry. Sendin' some lovin' back at ya. You're heart is in the right place. But the members here belong to many different web sites. And this kinda statement might make them feel a little alienated. I know you didn't mean it that way. So I'll distract them with my rendition of "Saturday Night Fever" while you make a discreet exit out the back door. :-) ScottA

Lady C, as an owner of a web site, etc etc, I stand behind you in you making rules and guidelines FOR SOMETHING YOU ARE OFFERING FOR FREE to people. Anyone has a problem with how you handle your OWN web space, then they can go out, get web space themselves and offer it how they see fit. Not up to them to decide on how you use your web space :o)

Philodox ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 3:56 PM

Guys, back off... The good Lady has made an offer that, well, let's face facts, none of you are making... Chill, guys, her site, her rules, personally, I think she's being extremely generous... Lady Cherry, as soon as I get up the guts to post something to the freestuff in the minefield that is Renderosity, I might be contacted... Thanks, darlin'. :)

WarriorDL ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 4:00 PM

Why do I need to back off?

A wonderful, generous offer, Lady Cherry! (Now if I can only finish a few freestuff items before all the space is gone :-))

PabloS ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 7:44 PM

OK. This is F-U-N-N-Y. 15 responses so far to LC's offer...mostly defending her generosity in response to ONE adverse comment. :-)

scifiguy ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 7:50 PM

And she deserves to be defended. She's offering something for free, and somehow her offer is offensive? Good for you for doing something nice Lady Cherry!

Questor ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 8:08 PM

Back off? From what? Defended from what? I didn't criticise her generosity and stated that I understood her motives, which I do, I just wasn't too happy with the phrasing of her comment, and pointed out that freestuff was given to the community not to a website. The words above seemed to indicate that if you don't give freestuff on this site, it isn't for the community which is utter rubbish. Interesting, one lives and learns as they say. Never mind, as I said, I understand her motives and do agree that this is a most generous offer. Perhaps I should have added a compliment to my statement to soften my apparently terrible, horrible, nasty, vicious attack. (shrug)

Lady Cherry ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 8:48 PM

um hmmm That kinda hurt considering im one of the top contributors to this site and enjoy helping others in this community. Why would i want you to give free stuf to any other site? this is my home! This is my love! I will give to this community because this is the place that has helped me grow and learn ever since day one of 3D programs. I could probably go on forever! But i think that im not alone in the fact of growing here. Giving to another community would feel to me like stabbing this place i call home for me anyways! This isnt for argument just my side of things i suppose. -Much Much Love Lady Cherry

I've been watching this closely. And This is turning into a confrontational thing now. You both need to talk to eachother and work this out. You're getting the members involved being out here in public like this. And you'll never work it out if that happens. Can you both take this issue to private e-mail from here on for me please? Otherwise I'll have to lock this thread. Thanks, ScottA

Questor ( ) posted Mon, 19 November 2001 at 8:59 PM

It doesn't matter Lady Cherry, I really don't want to get into an argument with you or anyone else, what you offer is most generous, your heart is quite obviously in the right place. The point I was trying to make, which you still seem to be missing is that I consider myself a member of the 3D Community - this includes, Renderosity, PFO, 3DCommune, Renderotica, alt.binaries.poser/bryce/rhino etc etc. One site is not in my opinion a community it is just a website and set of forums, it's the members who are the community, and it is to "them" that I give all my work. A large number of people, running into several thousand are members of the "community" which includes this site and others. Sorry if I'm being obtuse with what I'm trying to say, I'm not attacking you or your generosity, just your definition. :) I don't consider letting people from another site have my files, models and work as stabbing anyone in the back. Some of my freestuff was hosted by PFO until that went awry, I had some posted at 3DCommune, but my site collapsed because of bandwidth. I didn't ban anyone from Renderosity from having my files, in fact if you check through the galleries you'll find artists there from here who have a few of these models. All I was trying to say is that a community is not Renderosity alone, it is the cgi population who use the software and files that sites like this promote, who help each other regardless of where they choose to visit and when. I'll wander off now and leave you in peace as I don't think this is going to go anywhere and really shouldn't be the focus of this thread. :)

That was kind of a waste of time... Love yah Lady Cherry hun, you are so generous. I just contributed my first item to the free stuff area, and hope to do more, but I have a pretty good server. Good luck! Good luck to all! Oh, and run over to the free stuff and check it out, its the thundercats shirts!

Lady Cherry ( ) posted Tue, 20 November 2001 at 8:16 AM

I wouldn't take that too hard Lady. A very nice member offered to host my files this week too. But I didn't do it. Part of the reason is because I've got a million resumes out there with my web address on it. But the other part was even though I don't have a reliable host at this minute. I'm not sure what I want to do. Maybe everyone else is in a similar situation? Web sites are a very personal thing. Having someone host your files (even if you have control and ftp access)is kinda like car pooling when you really want to drive your own car. ScottA

Mixednutt ( ) posted Tue, 20 November 2001 at 5:28 PM

Crikes, suppose I asked for a little space(my server isn't as great as I let on). Would there be any expectation of me other than to follow the rules? is there a way I could ask for just a tiny bit of space, and I could use the name mixednutt.poserosity.com, I don't know any other mixednutts out there I would be hindering. I must say, your offer is very generous, so I feel a little guilty asking knowing that I won't use it too much, but I would definitely take advantage of it! Should I e-mail you?

leather-guy ( ) posted Tue, 20 November 2001 at 6:48 PM

Lady Cherry; As generous as your offer is, perhaps you'd get a larger response if you reposted it late Friday? I notice a lot more vocal activity in the forum on weekends, I think a lot of folk are tied up during the week, & many of those are the folk who would benefit most from your kind gift; the folks too busy to seek or setup a site of their own. Just a thought. ;-) Thank you again for your offer. Jerry B

Lady Cherry..You have got to be the most generous person I've met so far.,And I've met some wonderfully generous people in this community. I am currenty working on purchasing my own domain. While Im waiting however, I have a few files I'd like to share with the community. Their not the best..but thier free. Would it be alright to speak to you about some temp space to host them on until I get my domain? I had thought about hosting my files off my own system..but to be honest..I'm not sure how to do that. I would be more than happy to compensate you for the space.Thank you for offering this to the community.
