My holiday wish to all of my friends here at renderosity. Characters created in Poser 4 (eve gown from Steve Shank's PoserWorld CD, my texture). I created the champagne bottle and flute in Pixels 3D. Lathed objects are about as far as I've gotten. I will post them as obj props on Free Stuff. The glass numerals are a symmetrical lattice prop created in Bryce. Between them and the 4 mirrored walls and ceiling, and the 3 particle props for the confetti, the render took 25 1/2 hours. You can see a better quality version in the gallery if you want. Have a good one! Diane

Beautiful Diane! Love that hair! 3...2...1... -Rob

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Sat, 11 December 1999 at 11:57 PM

Thanks, guys. I just wish I was faster at it. Takes me so darn long to do anything (not counting Bryce rendering time). I'm such a perfectionist. Course I guess I could stay out of the Tavern for a while. LOL. Don't sell yourself short, Jack. Your stuff is getting better all the time. Remember, I have an art background. That's not essential, but it kind of gives you a head start. Diane

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 12:22 AM

:;chuckles:: Maybe I should see about going back to school :0) Jack

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 12:37 AM

What on earth for? Maybe you can learn a few shortcuts to techniques in art school, but no amount of schooling can make up for doing. And you've either got a feel for it or not. They can't teach you that in school, IMHO. Course that comes from someone who's largely self-taught. LOL. I think you have a good eye. You just need to keep doing. Diane

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 1:06 AM

Thank you Diane, your a sweetie!! Um, does this mean I have to get into the gun fight also? LOL Jack

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 2:15 AM

Oh lord, I'll never live that one down, will I? Would you believe it was all the fault of those "devils" you have working for you? They are a BAD, BAD influence, hehe. Diane

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 2:51 AM

Yeah, uh huh, like you did nothing to provoke it, eh?? Just two men so willing jumping at the chance to fight for a beautiful a beautiful and talented woman. Nope... can't see why they would fight over you :oP Jack

Um, I'd had too much to drink? Uh, they'd had too much to drink? It was Brunhilda's evil spell? I am completely innocent!

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 3:12 AM

Okay, I will give you the benefit of the doubt... unless of course we should get together a jury of your peers and try you for being your wonderful self :o) Jack

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 3:26 AM

Oh, my peers are trying! And what happens if I'm convicted? wink

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 1999 at 1:57 PM

Thank you, LilWolf. I know the new Millennium will bring many blessings to us all. The end of this one has brought me many wonderful new friends and moved me to create artwork that would never have happened had it not been for their inspiration and support. I thank you all! Foxhollow, I'll never tell! LOL.

Ha, ha, haa--I missed all the fun this weekend, I see. Better check all those corners and cracks and crevices, Diane. The OTHER Diane (B)

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 13 December 1999 at 3:54 PM

Looking at this, I'm curious. Don't want to know all your secrets, Diane, but I'm wondering if you exported/imported the 2 figures together--with or without the props? And, if so, did you have any problems? I'm assuming that you then 'retextured' them from within Bryce also--or NOT?? The effect of the mirrored walls and ceilings are really great-all the little images of the couple and the harlequin pattern of the floor reflecting and then reflecting again is really neat. Also--a terrific job with the symmetrical lattice too. Love the image. Diane B

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Mon, 13 December 1999 at 4:05 PM

Diane, I tried bringing them in together with the props, but found it too hard to manage selecting that way, so I imported each figure (with it's props) separately and then repositioned them (a big pain, as you know). No problems with the props or the figures, though. The flute and champagne bottle were converted to obj props in Poser, so they imported into Bryce with the figures without a hitch. I've noticed that dxf hair or props on a figure will screw up the import every time. Then I applied all my textures again within Bryce (also a pain). I wish there was a way to keep the textures applied when you import to Bryceor is there and I just don't know about it? Keep watching, Diane. The fun hasn't ended yet. I never could resist a challenge! Diane G

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 13 December 1999 at 4:42 PM

Well, often my textures come in with the figures, but they aren't 'strong' enuf--you know what I mean. Fiddling with them in the materials lab just improves them considerably. And then--try importing a figure with Yamato's hair--geez. If you look on the Bryce forum, I got so far and can't figure out the last part. I'm just experimenting with the hair, so haven't played with the figure texture, etc. I know how to do that so that isn't a problem. But--the transmaps for the hair are another issue. I have't tried Allie's hair yet either. I'm sure you'll do some wonderful things with Poser/Bryce. I'm hoping I can get a bit of focus this winter and move on, but I don't know--I have a lot of 'issues' right now LOL (doesn't everyone?) Anxious to see your work--its inspiring. Diane B (damn, there are too many Diane's--maybe I'll just go back to picnic)

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Mon, 13 December 1999 at 4:50 PM

You do know that Bryce transmaps are opposite of Poser's, don't you? Black is transparent in Bryce, white in Poser, so you have to invert your map. How do you get the textures to import with your figures? The champagne bottle texture came in automatically, but my figure textures never do. Do they have to be in the same folder? And yes, Diane was a very popular name for a certain era of women... Funny, Linda was, too, but I don't see many of them on the Forums. Diane G

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 13 December 1999 at 6:55 PM

Yes, check the thread (I learned that fairly early on when I'd use masked flat squares and then, esp. when I used transmapped eyelashes and Anton's peacock--which drove me absolutely crazy for awhile LOL). I have the 'hair', but the 'base' is eluding me. I keep going back over my steps, how I've done the trans map (like the hair) and I still get the base. I know I must be overlooking something. The message URL is http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=107&Form.ShowMessage=45737 If you have any thoughts I'd sure like to hear them. Have no idea how my textures import. When I export as .obj I have it textured, when it imports it asks me (generally) to 'find' the textures (I have all of my textures in texture folder-most of the ones I use are in P4import/women/by creator)-usually says 'texture was moved', etc. There have been a very few times when they didn't, but generally they do. However, look at the image I've referenced-that's how they come in--now compare to the Nene/redhead I did in Poser--this is your karynsansmakeup texture--no comparison until I 'fiddle' with the Poser version in material lab (and, of course, work with lights, etc.). Often, then, I will change 'pieces/parts', colors, etc.--esp in closeups-by referencing other textures than what I started with. No, you're right--no Linda's. However, , I think I was probably on the 'cusp' for the Diane's LOLOL. Diane B
