It has been brough to my attention that you lot r having probs with my downloads, my site is on msn, and i have it a public site to which any body can view, so I dont really know whats going wrong. some people have have contacted me here saying all they get is a sign up page, but i have downloaded the zips without signing in as manager, and they all worked fine 4 me,

kumo ( ) posted Thu, 22 November 2001 at 4:37 PM

for your trouble, if you sign up,you get about 3 meg or so storage, so i'll gladly web host for you, sorry for any inconveniance KUMO

Yes, the MSN requires you to log in (or register) to get your downloads. It's no big deal, if people register, all they have to do is remember their password the next time they want a download from you, or anyone else who uses that service. You might want to create a paypal account and invite those people who object to the 'inconvenience', to donate money, for the purpose of hosting your files on a 'pay' site?

dunno what a paypal account is? anyway msn is free, and so is my stuff, god nows how many freebies i've down loaded,so its my way of giving something back, so i wont charge for web hosting either, the more the merry, also been talking to ironbear, to try to get things sorted out, its not a dead link, jus' trying to find a way round it

Tripod is a free site and has 50M of space. Thats where I have my freestuff and no one has said anything to me about not being able to download. Just mentioning this as another option instead of MSN...

kumo ( ) posted Thu, 22 November 2001 at 6:32 PM

Wadus ( ) posted Thu, 22 November 2001 at 6:35 PM

www.tripod.com also if you have Frontpage it lets you use frontpage extensions and stuff, they have a pop-up banner but you can opt to use it or have a static banner on your page.

Demon is a good paid internet provider. I keep some of my uploads on it.

The number of sites that require you to register for this, that and the other is getting to be a pain. HOW many passwords do I need?

Pinto ( ) posted Fri, 23 November 2001 at 11:43 AM

Most of the pain isn't the passwords, it's the resulting "Death by Spam", if you must give a legitimate e-mail address to gain access to some of these sites. Some of the e-groups will literally drown you in spam if you sign up. I just pass them by. I get enough crap in my in box already. Pinto

The problem with msn as a site is that they are requiring us visitors to use PASSPORT and sign up, giving our personal information to Microsoft. I don't care how lovely and useful an item is, or how many "free" advantages they are offering, I refuse to yield to Microsoft's demands. They will take over the Internet eventually, but we don't have to help them. Carolly

Passport has been found to have a Serious security problem. MS has anounced a patch last week. As I've read from sites that cater to I.T. people have shown a consensus that it's better just to not use Passport.
