Subject: Question about credit cards

melanie ( ) posted Sat, 24 November 2001 at 9:23 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 3:41 AM

I can't find anywhere in the info re: MarketPlace purchases telling what credit cards are accepted. I'm trying to buy something using my Discover card. Is this not accepted by the MarketPlace? I keep getting to the download page and it gives me a Page Not Found error. Please make it clearly indicated somewhere in the MarketPlace which credit cards are accepted. It's difficult to know if I'm using a wrong card. The section called "About the MarketPlace" only briefly tells something about artistic quality and licensing. Nothing about credit cards. Melanie

OK, I just tried again with a different crdit card. This time I used a Master Card. I get to the "Make Secure Purchase" button, click on it, and still get the Page Not Found message. I've bought things here before, so what the heck am I doing wrong? Why won't it let me buy this object? Melanie Going back to try it with a Visa this time.........

OK, the Visa worked this time. If Visa is the only card accepted by the MarketPlace, please state that clearely somewhere. By the way, what does (No IM) mean next to the MarketPlace link at the top of the page? Melanie

I've been having the same problem with the Market Place. I've bought things here before without any trouble. Now I'm trying to buy an item and it keeps giving me a Page Not Found/Server Not Found/DNS Error. I know its not my ISP's DNS becauseI can resolve the secure.bondware.com domain, which is the credit card processing gateway for Renderosity. They are using some kind of scripting with .ez extension, which I have never heard of, but assume its PHP or ASP. There's got to be something wrong with the scripts. When you click Checkout, it takes you to https://secure.bondware.com/~poser/checkout.ez, which shows you your shopping cart contents. When viewing the source code for that page, the Make Secure Purchase button takes you to the same URL, but posts different variables. I've tried using two different Visa credit cards, and it returns the same error. This is getting pretty frustrating, since I need this item right away. Unfortunately, its a Renderosity-exclusive item, so I don't have any other options. I hope someone gets on this problem and corrects it soon. John

Problems here too.....I've purchased numerous items from the Marketplace in the past without trouble. For the past two days now ever time I try to make a purchase I get an error message from my Internet Explorer browser saying the safety certificate issuer is unknown and I'm unable to load on to the secure server. I'd certainly like to support our fine artists here with purchases but.....until the problems are fixed I guess I'll be forced to shop elsewhere....

We have installed a new secure server certificate which may cause problems with older browsers, if browsers that have custom security settings in the "Internet Options" (under tools in IE). You may want to check out http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com for updates if you're running Internet Explorer or www.netscape.com if you're using Netscape.

Thanks Jeny but I have the newest IE for Macs, use no customized settings, I tried the site you listed and.....still can't connect to Renderosity's secure server... and still have a basketful of unpurchased items. Since this is a problem created by the changeover, are there solutions planned or in sight?

Finally! I'm able to buy now. The certifcate change didn't do anything for me, since I wasn't having any problems with the first one. But for whatever reason, it works now and I have my items. :) John

Hiya, I see that jimbo got it worked out, but I'm still curious about NightCelt... Does it work for you now? Thanks.

NightCelt ( ) posted Sat, 24 November 2001 at 9:35 PM

Not yet...I still get the "unable to establish a secure connection" message.....

NegentropicMan ( ) posted Sat, 24 November 2001 at 10:21 PM

Thanks for pointing this out. Can you give me any more details? If you could quote the error message or give me a screen shot, that would be great. Also if you can give me any info from a view certificate screen, it would help immensely. If you would prefer to move this to email, just reply to negentropicman@renderosity.com Thanks.

Here's an update: I've installed Netscape 6 on my Mac and it seems to get around the certificate problems. All is well. Life is good again. Well, so far:)

Well, I don't know what worked for me, but when I tried my third credit card, it went through. I thought maybe it was the card I was using, but usually that will give you a message that the card is invalid or something. Not a Page Not Found error. Whatever it was, the third time was a charm, my Visa went through that time, and I got the item I was trying to buy. I hope this snag will get worked out or I won't be buying things from the MarketPlace anymore. Too frustrating. Also, once again, whoever moderates the stores, please indicate somewhere on the site which credit cards are accepted. I never know which one to use. I have almost every kind of card except American Express (I won't touch that one with a ten-foot pole). It would be nice to know what I can or can't use. Melanie

Melanie, That's a good idea to list the credit cards we accept. Will work on adding this. We are working on the other problems. thanks for hanging in there with your purchase! yvette

Melanie, The types of credit cards we accept are now listed in the section where you give the number. Thanks for the suggestion. yvette

Thanks, Yvette, that's a great help. I never know what I can use. I (and I'm sure a lot of others) really appreciate it. Melanie
