Well I did it, my fast finger freddies have done it again lol. I was trying to clean up my puter by getting rid of unnecessary programs, and some how in the big hurry that I am always in, I uninstalled poser!!! When I go to my computer the poser folder is there even though I can't use it. So my question is, when I reinstall poser will it delete the poser folder already there and get rid of everything I have installed in there, or should I move the folder then reistall and place all of the many items I have in there by hand? Does this make sense? lol Geesh I will never be in a hurry again !

i would copy first all subfolders that are in the "runtime" folder to a save place(hope they are still in place) than I would reinstall poser and the patch.look if everything is working ok.If you miss things that you bought, just replace the folders in the runtime folder with those you saved before. ???Why does no one backs up his data??? I make a backup once a week on a second hd, so in worst case I got all running again within one hour.And once a month i backup on cd.

I've uninstalled Poser and discovered that the runtime folder was still around. Hopefully you have some extra room on your hard drive or you have a CD burner? I suggest you backup your runtime folder. You could use winzip or a similar archiving program. It might be best to go after some of the individual folders within runtime, such as geometries, libraries, etc. I did this one time, folder by folder.... zipping as I went along. I then copied the zip files to CD. I filled up one CD and started on another. And I've installed lots of stuff since then.

Thanks for the info :) I do backup everything I have downloaded, but I never thought of backing up the runtime as you suggested, so I will do that now. Thanks for the help, and I have it up and running now. And ronknights, you are right, the runtime folder was still there :)

Always back up... But be careful where you backup. Do multiple backups if possible (Incoming personal Story) I had lost over 6 Gigs of files, excluding poser to a computer crash. I backed up all of my stuff to a home server. Guess what, BOTH computers crashed and I had to re-format. A CD I made a few months before saved my skin. Partition your HD into 2 partitions or purchase another HD entirely for backup purposes. It's what I do now. I also copied my Windows Installation disk, and created a basic dos boot disk in case I need to re-format. At most I can be back up running within 2 hours with a full format, reinstall of windows. Hope I helped someone. BTW reinstalling poser will not overwrite your addons in the Runtime directoy because only the original poser files were uninstalled leaving everything else (some configs, and addons). This has happened to me too.

I might suggest people consider a good backup program. There are several. Norton Ghost is a really nice way to make an image of your hard drive to CD. The catch here is that you need a fairly recent CD Writer. Mine was apparently too old. My former employer uses Norton Ghost. They have one CD that has everything on it. They just go from one computer to the next and use that disk image to put everything on a computer. If someone messes up a work computer, Norton Ghost brings it all back the way it should be. If they get a new computer, all the software is installed from the Image. I've had some success with NTI Backup NOW, in Windows 2000 and Windows ME. I haven't tried it with Windows XP. The advantage of using a backup program is that you let the software do the work for you. Click a few buttons, make a few easy choices, and the rest is done for you.
