I'm Britt. A Norwegian, - happily "stranded" viking in St. Augustine, FL (Of course, - it's my husbands fault!!:) I've been doing photography since I was 19... only I've done it as a journalist, - not as a "real" photographer. During my years over here (4 now!), I've picked up the more "graphical side" of me. I used to teach layout, typography and graphics at the university, - but have never had time to explore and go deeper into photography till now. So, - you might say that I'm a "semi" amateur (albeit a happy one! *lol*). My ex liked my cameras! ;( so he kept them. So my only tool now is a wonderful Maciva, - that still isn't quite like my old mirror reflex cameras (OK - so I mess them. A LOT) John (hubby) and I share one important hobby. We like to travel. Many, many of my pictures are from one trip or another. This one was taken May this year in Paris, - the Louvre. Oh, boy did I use a LOT of floppy disks! *lol* I found this young lady stashed in a corner of the greek statue room. I couldn't find any label, - so I don't know when she was made, - and where, - and by whom. I call her "captured between shadow and light" Nice to meet y'all! :) (Uhmm... how's that for a Southern drawl??) Britt

Thank you, Alpha! :) This is one of the pictures that I actually haven't "photoshopped" at all. I'm by no means a "purist" - in the sense that I mean that one should NOT photoshop ones pictures. I am Uhm... opinionated ;)in that I find that if you have a "goal" with your picture, - by any means, - use the tools that you have access to. Just because Photoshop (or other editing tools) weren't available when I learned doesn't mean that it's not "right" to use them. I know that the winner of the "National Geographics" contest this year has created BIG waves in the photo classes at least here in Florida. Simply because it's pretty clear that the picture IS edited. But it's a darned good picture!! :) The "purist" debate is by no means new. :) It was alive and well when I went to the university to learn journalism now 30 (yicks!!) years ago. And there were a lot of journalists who said that "this is an art, - it cannot be taught... you have to learn it the hard way, - by doing it". Ehh.. lol Well, - since I taught journalists to be, - I guess that tells what my opinions about that is.. :) Photography is something VERY interesting to me, - and my hubby will occationally roll his eyes, - when I just HAVE to "shoot that" ... uhm.. and one more of that... lol But he works in a large stock photography co. himself, - so in a way we kinda share that too. Hmm.. I guess I should have pushed the "nudity" button. Sorry 'bout that. And thanks again for the welcome. I don't think I have 2 forms to submit to the November contest... but I'm looking very much forward to the calendar one! :) Britt

Welcome! This is forum is a "free-for-all" in terms of participant age, photographic direction, talent and commenting. I like the mix. A great place to learn and to teach. We will be traveling with you in the future. Bill

Welcome to the group neightbour. :o) Nice to see some other northern colors here. .n (from Finland)

Finland! :) Land of the Lakes (and saunas :)! I bet you have shot a lot of wonderful nature pictures! Alas, the Nordic colors aren't that plentiful, since I moved over here 4 years ago. But we do go to Norway to visit my kids at least once a year, so I have SOME pictures from the far North. :) Britt

Antoonio ( ) posted Mon, 26 November 2001 at 9:11 AM

Yep, we have over 1 million lakes here. (no idea bout the number of saunas) ...But you see, one gets blind to these things, too close and you cant see it. I know our nature is different and really beautiful, but somehow, I found myself taking pics from all the weird spots. And, Norway, not the worlds ugliest country either. grin Actually, my previous posts are from Norway, from northern coast. If you have a time, take a look. I got few nice shots there. .n
