Subject: New Poser 4 User....Question About Products From DAZ3D

I am a new Poser 4 user, and found some interesting items on the DAZ3D website. I was wondering if the items there had to be textured before use. I guess what I am asking is if I have to take the blueprint of say a sword and then custom paint it in Photoshop. Or is the item already painted (or textured) with a base design that can later be custom-tailored. Any help would be appreciated... Best Regards, John

Normally when you click on an item , you get a page with many detailled info about it.And they tell you if there textures with the item.

Most of the things I have bought from DAZ3D have at least one texture already applied. Welcome to Renderosity, this is a great place and if you are looking for models there are some really great free models here and around that come with textures and such. We have some too, but from the sounds of your post you may not be interested in ours, if you are looking for swords and such you should also try Lannie's World, great, great stuff for free. Welcome again. Sharen

I guess what I am really wondering is if I purchase the "Cyber Studio" from them, am I basically purchasing a template that I have to customize myself? Same with the models. Will I have to customize the skin, hair, eyes, and everything else on them models. Will I need skin textures, bump maps, hair, eyes, and such. Or do the models come with those items for the most part. Thanks So Much....sorry if I sound stupid here, I need a few weeks to really get into it. JC

Sharen, I would love to share models. I am going to be working with human models about 95% of the time. I could really use some pointers on that one. I will be posting as I go. I am an Adobe Photoshop veteran, and I assume I will be with Poser in a few years as well. I plan to put a lot of customized faces on my male and female creations. This is going to be fun:-) JC

had a look at the "cyberstudio" ,it will look as in the big preview , the texturetemplate is only if you want to make your own textures. But with figures such as viccy or mike , they normally come without textures, you have to buy them seperate or look here for some free.

Welcome to the Poserforum. I have seen some nice textures here for some DAZ models. You can also look on the site here. THere are many other sites that provide some good textures. For people textures I recommend Happyworld Land, because of the variety. You can also change the colors of the model and/or its parts by going to Render -> Materials in the menu. If your looking for a sword... I'm modeling one in rhino, though it may be awhile before I can give it away. I'm still trying to uv map it. BTW. I have seen equally if/not better stuff here than at DAZ. You can also check the marketplace for some other great stuff. Now that you have poser, We had better see some work from you soon! :)

Okay, I went and looked at the CyberStudio, and as thgeisel said, it does look like it comes texture templates that you would have to add your own textures applied in your Photoshop, so to answer that question, yes you will have to with that model. That is not always the case, alot of models from DAZ come with maps, but then again just read the information on the left side of the model you choose and you will find out what does come with it. I am not so good at texture maps, but I am getting there, slowly learning from good folks from here, but most of our own models do not come textured, just with a template. As I feel more confident in some of them I will start providing them for people but not until they are good, don't want to give people something they pay for garbage, so they will have to be patient with me.....soon I hope. Hope this helped you in your search for an answer. Sharen PS: Welcome again.

If Daz does not include a texture they always seem to provide a well layed out and labeled texture template for free. Also mite want to download Uvmapper. Its a great program for making templates from objs and its free. Check the link out.

My experience has been as follows: DAZ3D's own models: Human and animal models come WITHOUT texture maps but separate, extra cost texture maps are offered Clothing, Props and accessories - Some come with, some come without texture maps, you have to check the item description and if the item is without a texture map, texture maps are offered as an extra. DAZ3D brokered items, that is, items made by independent artists and sold through DAZ3d: Almost all items come with texture maps but there are exceptions, read the description. If the items are without texture maps, these are usually offered as an extra. In any case, DAZ3D has free TEXTURE TEMPLATES for virtually ALL items, their own and brokered, that are sold by them. (Texture templates are used to create your own texture maps) Renderosity MarketPlace (and other commercial Poser model sources): Most items usually come with a, and often several, texture map(s), however very few include texture templates and that's where UVMapper comes in real handy as Cybermonk suggested.
