Simon, I think the answer to that suggestion is "off you go then!" I agree Blender is incredibly powerful, but it's so darn hard to learn! I bought the manual as soon as I'd downloaded the program, but it was a waste of money, I was even more confused after I'd read it than before. It often seems that the people who are good at programming are incredibly bad at explaining what they've done. If you have any hints or tips on how to get this undeniably amazing peice of software to actually do what you want it to do, I for one am all eyes and ears. Come to think of it, if there are any Blender wizards out there willing to share their arcane knowledge, let's hear from you! lol peeejay
Im no wizard but I do use Blender. I use it for modeling. Now that I have a Python script for obj import and export I use it to make morphs for Poser. I find the modeling and rendering to be the easiest of any I have tried. I have used Truespace, Rhino and 3D Studio Max and all of the other free apps I could find. I always come back to Blender. I will agree it wasnt easy to learn at first. But if you stick with it you can get some great results out of it. I have used it for less than a year and I havent used it for any animation but I do think it is a very useful program. If you want to learn to model and learn how to set up lighting and are willing to invest some time to go threw a few tutorials then Blender is a good place to start.
Hello Peejay If you are a member of the Blender community go to the discussion forum. Look for the Python and Plugins forum. From there find OBJ Importer/Exporter 1.1 The author is lynx. You will need to DL the latest version of Python. After you get it all set up all you do is open a text window in Blender and run the script. Lynx has been releasing new versions and I have used the last two. They both worked without any errors. Let me know if you have any problems. If I can help I will be glad to.
Any time Peejay I fallow the Python & Plugin forum a lot. There are a lot of people working on some very interesting scripts. One that is in the very early stages that I find interesting is the UV unrapper. There are some for making trees and hair and one I found for turning a face from young to old. Good luck!
