Okay, who has XP? and is Vue 4 compatable with it? Sharen Please list any problems if you have had any

Vue 4 works on XP, but previous versions have difficulty with it. I believe that sums up everything I know about it. lol! As I recall, Laurie is running Vue 4 on XP, so there's at least one person who'll be able to give you a decent response. :)

I am very happy to say that Vue 4 runs like a dream on XP, at least on my system. Tesign is having problems (I think), but I'm not sure what version of Vue 4 he is using. I'm using Vue 4 with the 4.03 update (yes, THAT one ;)). I've tried and tried to crash it, but it just won't :). I did notice tho that your pictures will still not save to the pictures folder, even tho previous ones are listed there in the dialog box, but when you physically go to the folder they are not there. They DO however save to any other place on your hard drive so I save them elsewhere until e-on can deal with it. Other than that one thing, I've had no problems with it at all. It's shaping up to be the most stable version of Vue that I've used since version 2, at least under XP :). And don't be afraid of XP...I was at first too, but it really is a huge improvement, doesn't take long to learn your way around and doesn't crash. And you don't need to reboot the machine 10 times a day! :) Laurie

What version were you running before you got XP Laurie? I don't think I will get lost, just wondering how all my software will interact together, big plunge I may will take, wouldn't have done it, except needed more room, and am moving the computer I have now to another location, so I will use 2 and Mike still will use his. I do appreciate the answers though and input. Sharen

I was running Windows 98 SE. A really poor comparision because XP is so much better. But if you are running Windows 2K and everything runs well, then I wouldn't upgrade just yet. At least not unless you want to :). All my software except for one program (Vue 3) runs in XP. Photoshop, Poser 4, Bryce 5, Raydream...it all runs fine under Windows XP. So does Painter 6 (just got that a few weeks ago). But if you had any doubts about Vue 4 and XP, you really shouldn't as long as you have the latest patch. Laurie

This is good to know, I am actually running Windows ME, and have not had any problems with it, like some I heard, although ever night before I shut down, I do a maintenance check to keep it running well, but like I said, I am in need of 2 now, so it will only come with XP, I have no choice. Well, not exactly we always have a choice, except the company I deal with said it would be XP. I wonder how Corel Photo Paint will do. Should go ask Corel I guess. Sharen

I wonder if the picture saving thing is an XP problem? I've done quite a few tests of the render-to-disk thingie, and I always use the Vue 4 (4.03) Pitures folder for that. I also use that folder for WIP's, to have somewhere to save pictures to for the "resume render" deal. In both cases, including if for some reason I choose to save a final render to that folder, the picture saves normally... 98SE.... I really want to try XP, but I've heard statements suggesting I might have major trouble installing it on my OEM Compaq... :(

Hi Sharen, I've just upgraded to XP, and Vue is actually one of the only programs that's running without any issues. XP doesn't like any of my hardware, cd drives, printers, etc. I'm having some problems with Photoshop and some 3rd party filters, but Vue has been working very smoothly. John :)

Sharen - XP is okay with Vue 4. The wonderful thing about aXP is that, its an OS that would never crash with any application crash. Just have to end your task and start the program again. This is the problem I'm having and its RANDOM ...but be sure you do not export the image as Vue default which is "all picture files"...choose a "bmp,tiff" or something. Moreover rendering in Ultra sometime complete but mostly don't (12% to 65%)for me. Rendering to disk..I'm not sure..just ain't have the patient to wait with my kind of scene file size. Broadcast and final is the same as with Ultra intermittent problem but less prone. The risk of incomplete rendering goes up when my rendering pixels size is goes over 1095 X 822 which is the Vue default. This again could be what is use in the scene..like the one Bloodsong had with his waves pounding on shore or something like that that causes it. Vue 3.1 works fine with XP on my system as I have mentioned here earlier in one of the beta 4.03 thread here. All other program that I have been using all runs on XP. Please note that the above may be peculiar to my system and software config...like Varian use to say, mileage varies. Just for info...XP professional version (not home user version), Dual CPU (1G), 1 Gig Expandsion RAM, Mixed Format HDD (SCSI 'n' 100/ATA) total 7 of them, 3d Lab VX1 32Vmeg(X4) and ASUS CUV4X-D MB.

I've tried Vue-4 on 2 XP machines with basically the same hardware & video card, and with XP home and pro editions. It works a treat on one machine, with all OPENGL opetions enabled. On the other machine it dies horribly whenever I have OpenGL selected. both machines have Nvidia Geforce cards with the same drivers. Its a puzzler as to why it works fine on one machine and not the other, when they are essentially the same. Oh, by the way, don't believe what you hear about apps not locking-up the machine in XP. If its a low level driver crash, such as OpenGL, then it will kill any XP machine, so only a hard-reset will get it back.

I have open gl disabled on my machine because it makes the program operate so slow. So that I can't tell you if it will make the machine crash with it turned on. However, since I am a creature of habit, I LIKE wireframe views anyway...it's what I'm used to :). So turning off open gl was a non-issue for me :). Laurie

I am runnin vue 4.22 and i simply cannot save anything I render. im runnin xp sp2. I cant render to disk. i cant render to screen and then save it.. it just doesnt do anything.. you click save and then you look for the file and it is not there i searched the entire hdd but cant find it anywhere.. any idea?

Hi there...not sure if I understood your question but if so I do, when you save a rendered image, look carefully at the save extention format..the default "all files" (something like that)has to be change to tif or whatever you choose. Its kind of stupid for e-on to have that as a default.

Well it should and I have no other answer. Afraid I could not think of anything else except may be a glitch when you first install. Looks like you have to uninstall clean and re-install again.

heres another winxp (pro) user and vue and all my other applications are working like a charm and i use my rig on a daily basis for web and media work so theres alot of different applications causing havoc, xps been runnning smooth every single day since it was launched. just remember to get sp2 and turn off the built in firewall and install zonealarm or a real hardware firewall.

Afraid its not just this machine, i have reinstalled Vue over and over but makes no difference, I even installed it on another machine i have here with XP Sp2 and it still does not save. I have a feeling it could be a conflict with SP2 and 4.2 update.

Well...I've been using XP2 since it came out all along with Vue 4.22 update. So far no issue with saving rendered images. I guess the best is to contact e-on. This is certainly a very very unique 'problem'. Sorry, can't be of much help.

Have you tried saving the image using the keyboard combo? If you hit ctrl-F8, you should open a save picture dialog.

just tried didnt work. lol well thanks anyway for the help guys. i might just reinstall xp. should work then hopefully.

well ive been using sp2 since it came out and im using the latest v4 update so theres no conflicts here.
