Almost 2 months in the works and a few new (to us) techniques discovered, Chris and I finished our Halfling Village last week.

VAIRESH ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 8:04 PM

Heya, Looks nice ;-) How did you get such nice sharp edges on the bridge supports ??? Cheers, Vairesh

judith ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 8:11 PM

That's one for Chris to field, I just texture. Couldn't model my way out of a paper bag...... maybe someday perhaps. I'll bring this thread to his attention.

BTW, advance buzz on LoTR shaping up quite nicely (despite the annoying pop-up ad).

PabloS ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 8:40 PM

I smell some custom characters to go along with this...and a lot of potential themes.

Vairesh, Steve Shanks posted an illustrated explanation of how sharp edges are achieved in Poser just a few threads down. Here's a direct link to the thread.

By the way, Judith, the village looks great. Just like I've always pictured Bag End and the Shire. Did you base the design on the old animated film?

A charming and attractive package. I bought it yesterday, & look forward to using it once I've finished xfering all my apps To my new computer. It looks a lot like I'd envisioned Hobbitown (Hobbittrail?) from the Hildebrand series on Tolkien, except I always "see" it with a lot of huge gnarly oaks all over. (I bought tom3962's Massive Tree Roots for Poser along with it to dress up the scene :-))

SAMS3D ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2001 at 3:49 AM

It is wonderful, where is it available. Sharen

chrisjol ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2001 at 4:16 AM

Thanks for the kind comments, folks. Vairesh, I don't know why the edges are so sharp. I'm still trying to figure when Poser rounds things off and when it doesn't. See Steves explanation, but in this case I was just lucky. Leather-guy. I agree that trees are vital, can't do trees.......yet. Sharen, its at the Marketplace. RE: LOTR world premiere was Monday, followed by rave reviews, "Harry Potter isn't in the same league"

chohole ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2001 at 1:08 PM

Absolutley super, must go get it. LOTR was always my favourite fantasy series, the first I read in fact. Now all we need are some hobbits and things.hint hint.

I absolutely agree! For now though litelvr's dwarves make a trek through occasionally. And the fairies have taken it upon themselves to be caretakers until the rightful owners move in. For those looking for trees, litelvr has some wonderful trees in freestuff.

If that's a hobbit's house, shouldn't the door knob be in the center of the door?

judith ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2001 at 1:54 PM

It's not a hobbit house, it's a halfling house. :) BTW, that's always been one of my favorite images.

How'd you open the door with the knob in the center?

shadownet ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2001 at 7:51 PM
