Subject: HELP!!!! Need Pro Pack Figure Setup Assistance! Thanks :)

I have recently made a set of rhino models that I need to make into "smart props" for Poser. The models aren't human based, and all the tutorials I've read are about posing humanoid figures. These models wont have IK chains or parent/child bones. I just need to setup individual bones for moving drawers in and out, or working handles on a faucet. I've been halfway successful with it so far, but the models always turn out with extra crap I dont need and the faucet handles are always separate props from the base of the model. Anyone seen any good tut's out there that are not about boning humanoid models? Any help is appreciated!

If we are talking furniture then I would go about it this way:-

  • Write a hierarchy file paying no heed to what is connected to what or rotation orders. Basically its only purpose is to list out the groups.
  • Bring the model into Poser with file/convert Hier file
  • Save to figure library
  • Open the CR2 in a text editor, or better yet John Stallings CR2 editor
  • Towards the bottom you will find within the figure section the "bend" line. Set this to "0" This should turn off all the bending to the entire model. If it doesn't play ball, (I had one that for some reason did not), then turn off the bending within each section.
  • You can hide unwanted dials by changing "hidden 0" to "hidden 1" It may be possible in a text editor to search and replace, to hide all then go through and reveal just the x, y and zTrans dials that you require.

Thanks for the help! I should be able to whack these out in no time now :) I just didn't realize I was gonna have to fiddle with the heirarchy files. But no big deal, they aren't that tough to understand. Now for the huge job of organizing and making UV maps for 30,000+ polygon models Shudder :) Thanks again!
