Any news as to what's in it?

From version tracker:

"What's new in this version:

<* Artifacts occasionally appeared on transparent objects when using lights that have soft shadows

  • Bitmap sequence output was only rendering one frame of a network rendered animation. NOTE: Images are not assembled until after the animation render has been completed, so you will not see any image files until the animation sequence has finished rendering
  • Many bad things that were happening in the Tree Lab
  • Metaballs and grouping workflows were leading to crashes
  • Camera tracking problems and associated crashes have been addressed
  • The clipping bracket in the terrain Editor was acting strange on occasion
  • A persistent and annoying row of white pixels at the top of the Terrain Canvas in the Terrain Editor was sometimes produced
  • The Light Lab no longer explodes when playing with animation there
  • Update and feedback in the Network Render Manager has been substantially improved
  • Depth of Field and Panoramic rendering now play well together.">

HMMMM i dont see anything about fixing the problem
of metaballs NOT accepting those awesome volumetric smoke presets
SHAME!!

Thanks for telling us about the update. I didn't see it in the patches/updates section on the Corel site. so downloaded it from the version tracker site that you mentioned. Thanks again!

That's cuz from what I hear its not the public release. Corel will put it on their site for the public when its ready.

The patch is not ready for public use yet, it is almost ready, a announcement will be made here whens its 'officially' released. Ken

I updated but forgot to re-up my assigned ram, so I got out-of memory notice on this. all is fine so far though....

KenS: Please ask Corel if they could fix volume rendering errors. When two volume objects intersect the intersect area is looks bad. When volume ligh is shone through volume object it looks really bad. The volume rendering errors have been around since volume materials were introduced in Bryce and nothing seems to be have been done about it. Also metaballs still have the black edge when intersected with terrains and both having bump mapped material.

Well, I can't install the patch. I get an error about not being able to find a retail English version and the update stops. Someone on the Bryce Yahoo list suggested that the update was looking for the default directory, which is C:Program FilesCorelBryce 5, but since I don't have room on my C: drive to put Bryce there, I can only hope that Corel has a fix for this before they release the finished patch. -darlisa

With all the problems I've had lately with this PC, I'd switch to Mac in a second ... well, as soon as I win the lottery that is ... :) -darlisa

The patch is not ready for public use yet, it is almost ready... Yet it is available from Corel's official ftp site. Curiouser and curiouser...

I heard that someone jumped the gun and it had been pulled off the site. Haven't checked it out yet though.

I see from inyerface's downloaded picture that Corel did not fix the goofy tree trunk curve or bulge in Ver 5.01. That bug really looks like hell, especially up close.
