Subject: Clearest steps to creating a thumbnail for a rendering?

What are the clearest steps to creating a thumbnail for a rendering as is requested by the gallery. Is this done in Photoshop? Are there specific short programs that do this for you? How do you set pixel width and heigths to a specific level? thanks, Lightpen

You would use an image editor such as Photoshop and reduce the size of the image - (200x200) is a good average thumbnail size and then save it as a jpg file that is under 15KB I believe for the Renderosity Art Galleries.

Jade, I tried this in Photoshop and the with was fine, but then the heigth changes to a shorter pixel amount. This is very puzzeling to me. I tried using the Wizard and strange things also happened. I feel this should be a very short and quick process. What might I be doing wrong? thanks for your help in advance!

Constrain your proportions<. Why not just render out your image to thumbnail size? Then just open in PS to optimize the file size. That way there's no resizing anything.

it doesn't have to be 200 x 200 it can be 200 x 100 or whatever the proportions are- as long as the shortest side is no less than 50 pixels and the longest size is no more than 200 pixels.

Lightpen - as Cheryle says it doesn't have to be 200x200 exactly - just so long as one of the dimensions is 200 ;) Looking forward to seeing your images in the galleries.

I just use Poser to make my thumbs, importing the finished image, postwork and sig all taken care of, as a background. I let it be full sized, bring it down to 845x610, or something like that, and save it as a jpeg at 95% for the full image for posting. Then I pull in a pre-made thumbnail, made in Poser the first time I used it, allow the image size to change according to the smaller image, then ask for an import of another image. I call in the new one, but when it wants to change the size to fit, I say "No." My new image now appears at the smaller size. I then save that as a jpeg at 85%, to keep the overall size down for posting. I always differentiate my images by using a "2" at the end of the title for the larger one and a "tn" at the end of the thumbs, so they will not be confused in moving them around. The only problem will be a slight border on some images, which doesn't bother me. I could crop them out, but don't bother taking the time. Because I have things set up how I want them, this process is quick and painless for me. Once I finish an image, it takes about two minutes to get both images for posting, which I promptly take to the galleries for the pleasure of all mankind (just in case all mankind might decide to visit our galleries as a means to escape the realities of the real world).
