Subject: Bug on the french version of Poser 3

None of the PhilC figures work after they have been decoded. This must come from the fact that the folders names have been translated, so the program can't find the refering files it needs. On the other hand, there is no problem in reading character that don't need to be decoded. Could someone be kind enough to send me any PhilC P3 figure as a character added to the library, so that I can try if it works? Thanks a lot in advance ;)

Erm, have you actually translated the file names yourself? If you have - especially in the Geometries library - that may be why the figures don't work. Just a thought Paul

I tried that, but it does work : (

Sorry Sebo, I didn't make myself very clear there. The folder names in the Geometries folders need to be exactly what they are in the zip files. So, if the geometry file in the zip is runtime|Geometry|(English Word)| it must read that, not runtime|Geometry|(French Word). The spelling has to be exact, but it's not case-sensitive, in other words Blade1 is the same as blade1, but not the same as Blade 1 If this still doesn't work, drop me a line and I'll try and find out exactly what it is that's going wrong for you. I also notice that Agnes's (French) new posts contain .CR2's that will not open in my (US/PC) version of P4. The program claims that they are not Poser files. I thought perhaps they were Mac or something but perhaps it is a difference in the French version. I did check the reference to the geometries files and they seemed OK. Her(?) maps are great though. Much better detail than the thumbs would indicate. Did anyone else get her .CR2's to open?

Hello, I was able to open agnes' cr2's. I had to hand edit them first though. Open the cr2 file in MS Word or whatever word program you have and delete all the #$%^^&*()! junk at the start of it. Then resave it and it will open. The first lines should look like this....
{ Version
Serpent

This could be a mixture of two things: 1) All files by agnes are zipped Mac files which are (probably accidently) MacBinary encoded. This is an unlucky setting of the zip compressor which damages the files for both Mac and PC, because everything should be named "xxx.bin" in order to extract properly on the Mac as well. Dear Mac Poser creators: Please pay attention to this - turn OFF MacBinary if you zip stuff for the net. You can turn it off in your zip compressor, or you can use my tool to delete the resource forks to be safe. The best choice is probably to use the converter to export for the PC and then zip it - suits everyone on both platforms without restrictions. If you ever need to use MacBinary, preserve the .bin extensions, otherwise there will be garbage. Maconverter is repairing it on conversion, but this is no excuse for doing the mistake in the first place. Back to the original topic... 2) Maz once told me about a problem with the french Poser and .pcf - some Geometries .obj's seem to have capital letters. Unfortunately, Mover 1.01 is strictly case sensitive. Until it will be fixed, the only workaround on PC would be to rename the seedfile to lowercase in France for non-french .pcf, and to uppercase everywhere else for french .pcf files. Thankfully no problem on Mac, because Maconverter is not case sensitive. Hope that helps, MartinC

Good suggestions but in my case the files unzipped ok and the geometries were named correctly, however, there was a string of garbage at the head so I think Serpent may have nailed it. Thanks for the tip Serpent - I'll give that a try. (and sorry to have usurped your thread sebo)

Nance, not sure, but it could still be a misunderstanding: The possible problems have nothing to do with "unzipping". Your trouble with agnes stuff is due to MacBinary. I mailed her, and if I got it right she is going to re-post repaired versions. The "renaming" problem could occur with ObjAction Mover - and PhilC is using .pcf very often. So this is something seba could try to re-check again.
