Subject: Gallery Pictures, probably a dumb question...

...been browsing through the gallery. Lots of really good stuff there but how do you get an image of around 800*600 in 24 bit colour to cramm into 1MB? I don't get it. Every time I try to compress any decent sized image I end up with spotty rubbish. What software are you all using to prepare the images? Any tutorials out there that could help? regards peejay

hmm well what format do you save it as?? if you are using photoshop and save as a jpeg and say 5-7 quality it should be alright

heyas; check the shareware/download places for jpeg optimizer. it lets you set different compression rates for various areas of your picture. background junk can be highly compressed, and then you can uncompress the edges of the figures and all. very handy.

Just to be different - not saying that this way is better or worse...but it works :o) I frequently do mine in Poser by loading the render either as a background picture - in which case to render you will need to put something in the scene, I use a signiture prop I made up in RDS to sign my work. Or as an alternative, I load a square prop into an empty scene, resize the square to fit the window, and paste the picture to the square as a texture. I need to adjust the lighting and the material settings, with this method. Once all this is done, I select the render options window, uncheck render with shadow, and set the size I want. I render and then save as a jpg at either 90 or 95 %.

Thank you all. Downloaded XAT jpeg thingy like you said and it's one cool piece of software. Brilliant! If you want to see what I did with it, my first post is on the Bryce gallery now. Many thanks again to all. peejay
