hello, i'm a newbie! i've been toying with a magazine copy of poser3 and it was great! i could create a (simple) avi movie in less than 2 hours. now i've got bryce5 and poser4 on their way. i'm hoping to stick my poser characters in bryce scenes just like many of you do. but hey! how do i make props for my characters? do i need yet another 3D app to do that with? ok, i'm sitting down... go ahead and tell me. thanks, miker

That's a question I have too. Except that I know you will need another software package, I just can't advise which one.

I downloaded a legally free version of Apami 3D 4.15 yesterday, and I'm going to try it this weekend. It is a modelling program that can export to .obj format. The price is right to give it a try.

Lots of people use Rhino and 3D Studio Max, there are lots and lots around you just have to find the one that is right for you and what price you are willing to pay. We use AutoCAD for all our modeling. If we can help you with some props let us know. And check out all the props in free stuff here and all around there are tons. Sharen We have lots of freebies that are poseable if you are intersted, can be used in Vue, Poser and Bryce

They also have really low polygon counts too. Sharen

I like Wings3D. It's an Open Source modeler, and free. Very easy to use. Just export to .obj format to use your models in Poser. You'll probably want UVMapper too, to texture them. jon

thanks to everybody for responding! being a newbie i am just overflowing with questions. so the basic requirement for poser import is that i be able to export it from the prop modeller as an obj? is that correct? i've got little experience with import/export with 3D formats, but what i do have has taught me that textures are often lost. any comments on that? i'm going to give the amapi a try. and hey! what about truespace? i've got that! maybe i could try it! to bjbrown: i have one of those freebie copies of amapi, too, so maybe i will try and use it. i played with it a little and it seemed unstable. but with a rookie behind the wheel, what can you expect? hahaha. to sharen: thank you for the freebies link. i'll check them all out! i'm just a hobbyist so the 3Dmax is not an option. i notice that rhino is very popular, but even it would stress my budget. i've got amapi and truespace. i think i'll give them a try, now that i know that obj export seems to be the key. to peejay: thanks! thats a great link. lotsa free software. to jon: i will keep wings3D in mind. thats interesting that you mention uvmapper. i downloaded that here recently when somebody mistakenly told me that i could use it to generate the mtl file for a poser3 obj export. so wings3D won't texture itself? oh! i bet it will texture but the uvmapping is a step above simple texturing. am i right? again, thanks to everybody! your help is much appreciated. zspider

Wings3D is a work in progress, but already exceeds some apps in its development. Texture mapping is currently one of the things in development, but should be there soon. Untill then, UVMapper should work for you. jon
