Hi People...now I don't want this to turn into an incredibly long thread about which is the "best movie ever" again!! LOL!(It's really a different strokes for different folks thing, isn't it?) However...I did go and see Moulin Rouge at an open air cinema-happening thing that they have in Melbourne over the more temperate months...It's held at a variety of locations, this one being in the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. It's like a BIG picnic with a movie thrown in! (oh and bats flying around overhead)~Being a photography forum I include a picture! ;-)> Now for my amatuer critique! I really liked it!...Entertaining, full of colour, movement, great cinematography, laughs & tears (well Mrs. PC cried) It also had a lovely message about loving and being loved. I saw it as a modern day passion-play...fully expecting not to like it, I was pleasantly surprised. Not my favourite film of all times, but I would see it again! Thanks for listening to my "two bobs worth" (I warned you I'd be giving my opinion!)

We walked to the "Moonlight Cinema" as they call it, from a friends flat nearby. On the walk I saw a strange thing, which naturally I had to photograph! I wonder who would be making phone calls from there?

You tha man, PC! =) Hehehe, no seriously.....calling it the best ever or something like that is always so subjective, but at least after seeing it I remembered WHY I like movies so much! And anyone with a little, old fashioned romantic heart should agree that it's more like the beginning to a lot of kool and fun stuff in movies for the next years :) I certainly hope so....I've had it with overhyped drug-related movies, or film-noir wannabees that always try to immitate China Town.... Love to see that people can still make those uncomplicated romance films like they used to do 50 years ago. Why did that ever dissapear ? The last thing I remember like that was Dancer in the Dark and Pennies from Heaven (man, that's like 15 years old!) Man, you have to be a real depressed cinic if you don't feel a bit happier when you're leaving the cinema.....oh oh oh.... There may be trouble ahead...but while there's music and moonlight and love and romance...let's face the music & dance... Before the fiddlers have fled...before they ask us to pay the bill & while we still....have the chance.....let's face the music and dance.. Dancin' in the dark, till the tune end....we're dancing in the dark, and it soon ends.....we're waltzing and wonder why we're here..... [feeling of melancholy sets in] ;)

Punk ...wow ..that's wonderful ..laying down the grass and ...watching a movie like "Moulin Rouge". (uhmm what's happening when the weather changes in half a minute ? Can't imagine ..lol ) As for the movie ... I can't resist commenting this. I didn't expect a "Truth, Beauty, Freedom, Love movie" like it comes out finally. What I really love of it is some scenes like the tango of Roxanne ... so deep ... I hardly clapped my hands in the middle of the movie. Uhmm I commented your second photo in the gallery. Well I think is one of your best. Let's just have me imagine there is a tramp under that stuff in the angle ..:)I tought he was the superman ... let me imagine that. That's why I love photography ...

yeah, me too.....and while I'm no sentimental idiot, I just could find a way not to feel any emotions during the movie. Big tention along the way. And yeah, the beautyful tango is very emotional stuff...building up and building up and building up....the third bit is almost like an explosion. Awesome stuff. Btw, Scene, is it just me or did the trailer just make it look like another movie ? I felt that they didn't promote is well enough.....which is weird for a $50 million movie. Somehow the trailer(s) don't capture the feel of the movie. Oh well..... :)

I felt that the trailer was for a different movie. i went expecting a movie about a can can theater. Which I suppose is what it was about at some level. Either way it was hilarious!!!! And I truely enjoyed. The sound track for it for those of us who but soundtracks is good EXCEPT they didn't include the like a VIRGIN parody. On the otherhand ROxanne was included which was nice. Dancer in the dark also is a very good Soundtrack. All of the songs are there including a more uplifting version of the Title Piece. Discussing musical and Love movies. I think some movies have been forgotten. The 80 included Victor Victoria. Which was an enjoyable film. The 90's included Pretty Woman andother fine film and a good soundtrack. Currently there is Ocean's 11 remake playing in the theaters. I belive that too has a good soundtrack filled with relazing lounge music. See there are plenty of good movies out there. We just have to rember them. Bsteph

Opps! Forgot to say. Great pictures. Great color. Also do they have drive in's in Australia. That is what this reminds me of. However because of the openeness one thing is lacking!! Bsteph

They used to have drive-ins in Australia...They were a big part of my childhood and teen years...unfortunately not many are left...(Sadness) Thankyou everyone for your feedback and comments, and I will definitely see the movie again! Expect my review of "Lord of the Rings" as soon as I see it! (Only Joking Folks!)
