Subject: What's the real deal about rendering in a new window?

vervefx ( ) posted Sun, 06 January 2002 at 10:49 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 5:25 PM

Hiya Guys I was searching the archives about rendering issues to see if there were any problems related to the one I'm having. When I try to render in a new window..the render screen gets all stretched and then Poser hangs. I saw a tread about that from early Dec and the the reccomendations were to compress any large texture files, defrag, reboot, etc. Well, I've tried the defrag, the reboot, checked virtual memory, but gonna go try the compressed jpg now. I was able to render in a new window fine just two days ago. Hmmmm.... any more tips?? Verve

are you by any chance impatient? trying to scroll u to see what has already rendered while it si still working - I admit to having done that a few times - sometimes it freezes me and leaves the funky stretched trail...

Some props cause this problem for me. Don't ask me why, I couldn't say. ;) Usually what I have to do is delete everything but the nasty prop and render the prop alone to composite in later.

LOL...yes, I am patient but I didn't scroll the render window. Maybe you aren't supposed to watch it render. I was staring at the monitor pretty hard...LOL I think it maybe that groundtexture. Once the render begins it is only able too render a small portion of the ground and then......it's skid marks all the way to the top of the window.

Also remember not to run any other program while you're rendering, and check to see if you have enough virtual memory allocated.

I checked the memory issue. I think it may be too low. I'm upgrading in a few weeks so until then I'll be rendering in the main window :( Thanks

I agree with BJbrown, but i pretty much have internet explorer open at Rederosity whilst rendering, so I have sabotaged many a poser session - oops!

Two weeks ago, I upgraded from 128MB to 384MB RAM, which has made all the difference for me. I would go higher, but that's all my ancient board will support. And since the upgrade, I haven't yet heard the hard drive crunching when doing a render. It was relatively cheap as an upgrade too ($30 per 128MB), so I'm very happy.

I'm guilty of being connected to the web while using Poser too. Usually, if I don't touch the computer during a render, nothing will crash. Merely clicking a button on the lower Windows toolbar during a render, however, has a high rate of causing Poser to freeze. I'm not sure the problem is necessarily an available memory problem, but Poser just seems to be too jealous of system resources to play with multi-tasking.

how do you allocate memory to a program?? i use a pc naturally..i have no idea how you do it

bjbrown ( ) posted Mon, 07 January 2002 at 7:54 AM

To my knowledge, you cannot allocate a specific section of memory to a particular program in Windows. However, you can increase your virtual memory, which uses your hard drive as a substitue for extra RAM. The drawback of virtual memory is that it's significantly slower than RAM.

i see..most interesting...thank you!

I recently maxxed out my memory at 512MB of SDRAM. This morning, I've been fiddling with Poser to answer some questions for folks at the forums here. In order to accomplish this goal, I currently have these programs running: 1.) Poser 2.) Internet Explorer 3.) Outlook Express 4.) ThumbsPlus 5.) Powerdesk Utilities 6.) Ulead PhotoImpact (and sometimes Adobe PhotoShop) I'm having no problems rendering in a new window. Of course I'm also using Windows XP Home Edition. Since I've maxxed out the memory, I don't even hear the hard drive churning when I render. And I have the case open right now!

I, too, had this problem when rendering to a new window. I fixed the problem by downloading a program called Mem Turbo. It completely solved the problem for me. I'm still sending up prayers of thanks for the person who recommended it to me =)
