Subject: How to get SPOT lights to cast shadows ????????

Sentenza ( ) posted Sun, 06 January 2002 at 10:11 AM ยท edited Fri, 14 February 2025 at 5:20 PM

What's the trick to get spots to cast shadows?
Even when "CAST SHADOWS" in the properties menu of an individual light is activated, it won't cast a shadow.

Does anyone know about the trick, where's my mistake?

Thanks,
Sentenza

Are you casting a shadow on something? I know that sounds silly, but remember that unless you build one, theres no ground in Poser -- your render is done in space, as it were. The ground square in the pre-render window is simply for reference. Also, if youre using an import for a background (not as a texture on a background square, but just as an imported background), Poser wont put a shadow on it either.

go to the dials on the right there is one where you adjust the amont of shadows , set it about 0,5 and below the is a dial mapsize set it to 512 or 1024. And as said before ,use something ,where shadows can fall on. Additional tip, select the hair and uncheck the shadow button for the hair

Lighting in Poser can be frustrating. I find using spots more controllable than global lighting. Select one of the existing lights (botton of window) or add one from the light controls (upper left) and click on Light Properties and make sure it is "on" and "cast shadows". You can change the color at this time. Then got to the Object/Point at menu and select the object that you want to have the light point at. This may be a face, a bed, a hand ... and the light will point at that wherever you move it. You should also move the light by it's xyz tran settings so that it's not behind a wall. You can also point at a simple prop (cube) which you can make invisible on the Heirarchy menu and move about the scene wherever you want to get the rigth effect. Increase or decrease the shadow settings on the control dials and fuss around with the other controls while on fast tracking to get what you want.

Yeah! It works with the increase of "MAP SIZE"! I have to use spots, because I want to do some closed room renders, now it's OK! Thanks a lot, Sentenza
