Subject: Dumb PPP Questions (please don't laugh!)

Dear Community Members: Well, I finally scraped together the bucks to buy the Poser Pro Pack. Here come the questions: 1. Is this considered an upgrade to Poser 4? 2. Is this a separate program from Poser? If so, can I run both at the same time and copy/paste models back and forth? 3. If it is an upgrade to Poser, will the installation process wipe out my existing pz3's and other stuff in the Poser Runtime folder? 4. Is PPP more stable than Poser or will it crash and burn or gobble up system resources like Poser? (one system is an iBook with 384 MB RAM and the other is a Toshiba PII with 192 MB RAM) 5. Are file formats the same or different? Will I have to load my Poser files into PPP and resave in a new format? 6. Why isn't there a FAQ like this at CL's site? 7. After visiting CL's site, I learned that I will need to upgrade to Service Pack 3. Do I download and install SP1, SP2, and SP3 or do I just download SP3 and install it? TIA - scaramouche

  1. More of an enhancement, actually, with additional plugins, extra features, etc. 2. No, it's a part of Poser and installs on top of it. You can, however, install a separate copy of the original Poser in a different directory. 3. Installing the Pro Pack will not wipe out your existing pz3's and other stuff in your Runtime folder. In fact, it'll add some new stuff. Better safe than sorry, though; always back up vital files before trying something new. 4. Poser enhanced with the Pro Pack has about the same system requirements as regular Poser. As far as performance and stability go, people seem to be of mixed opinions. 5. The file formats are mostly the same. Pro Pack adds some additional formats (compressed files), but will read and save the old stuff, too. One gotcha to watch for is that Pro Pack uses .png files for thumbnails, instead of .rsr files (it'll convert your existing .rsr's). Another gotcha is that Pro Pack will no longer convert bump maps to .bum format (although it still reads them). 6. Well, there is some stuff at the CL site. Look here. 7. You can just go ahead and install Service Pack 3. It incorporates all of the updates and fixes in the previous two.
