I haven't really put any details in yet. At minimum, I need to create some eyes (those are from another texture) and give the girl some makeup. Oh, and do a bump map for the body. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks

I really dont mean to sound rude, so apologies in advance if it comes across that way. But these things are all starting to look alike. I mean, you see one texture for Vic and really, after a while, youve seen them all. I realize the human body has a somewhat consistent look for most people, but isnt there anything else we can do for this poor girl? Im not knocking your work. Technically its very well done. Its just that theres not much here to differentiate yours from any of the scores of Vicky textures already out there. Is there something you can do to her to make her different from the herd?

eirian ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 2:07 PM

True enough. I do know what you mean. But short of using photograps, there are limits to how different a texture can be. One thing that is different about this one is the eyebrows are transmapped, rather than painted onto the texture. A small thing, but it means the brow colour can be matched to whatever hair you're using. And I am going to add details. As I said - this is a WIP.

thgeisel ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 2:14 PM

yes , I think with some details it would look good.I my opinion many textures are ,lets say ,to clean. no little wrinkles,no freckles, nothing.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 2:29 PM

A small thing, but it means the brow colour can be matched to whatever hair you're using. That is no small thing, trust me. Thats great, because it addresses a long-standing problem Ive had with head textures that come with "additional hair colors" that never match up to the rest of the facial hair.

These are fine, though I agree about the variety issue. If you want something different, I'm amazed that there are only a tiny number of older characters/textures available. Arduino's 'Old Vicky' is beautifully done, wrinkles, age spots and all. I don't know, maybe the market isn't there, but some 40+ ladies would be nice. There are also not a whole lot of realistic Black or Hispanic textures available.

I have been in search of a good "all purpose" Vicki texture package for quite some time. A lot of people complain about packages that include 187 lip colors and 82 eye colors and make-up options, but I actually would love one that's realistic and well put together. There are tons of textures in the marketplace that are reasonably priced and beautiful, but I would rather not buy 10 $5 or $10 textures if I could find one excellent "base" texture (photo based or painted) with a variety of make-up, skin tone, and detail options. I know I could pop open photoshop and add or change colors, but I am just one of those people that likes MAT poses.

Anyway, this texture looks good, and knowing what your others look like I expect it to turn out well. ;) The lip bump is excellent. I would suggest adding some skin tone variation for realism if this is not intent to be a "made-up" texture.. some bluish tones around the eyes and a bit pinker around the cheeks and chin perhaps.

A few blemishes/moles/imperfections would be good. "Poser perfect" skin is a big factor in that doll-like look.

When was the last time someone introduced a new character with not just a texture but face and body morphs? Better yet, how about a new character like this with not only new body morphs but a magnet set or morph target to apply to the clothes so that they fit the new character. Has anyone else but me noticed that while the new Vicky characters all look the same the Michael characters have more diversity at least in the face morphs and texture maps. I bet if you took the last 6 new Vicky characters introduced in the Marketplace and put them in a lineup without hair nobody would be able to match them up correctly. Farang

Now Im sorry I raised this, because I dont want Eirian to feel the work is unappreciated. I know how difficult it can be to make one of these things; its not an easy job. My apologies for inadvertantly opening this can of worms.

Eirian's work is top-notch. Always.

Bia ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 3:24 PM

we can change the subject line to Vicky Wish List and state our desires cuz I agree with all of this. What I mean by that is...they are all great but I too like women with more character and less of the male's image of a supermodel dream girl with collogen filled lips! I know that MANY people love this style so I don't say there is not a demand or anything "bad" about their quality for that style. I just wish I was good enough at texturing to create some real "characters" without them being a'witch" or a "goblin" or an "alien". Anyway...she is well done and once she has the details, I am sure she will be beautiful! :)

eirian ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 4:42 PM

Well, I don't know about all-purpose, but I'm hoping to include a lot more than just a texture in this package. Like my Duncan character for Michael, there will be at least three different textures, and morph versions for V1 and V2. I haven't decided about the rest, yet. Depends how long the textures take, I guess. I'm working on a bump map for the body and it's not easy to get the details right. I have no objection to male fantasies, but hey, I'm female. I like a woman's body, artistically, but huge breasts etc. aren't my thing, either. The face, though - that's based on someone real. Still looks a little too "vicky-ish" to me, but I'm working on that, too! Thanks for the feedback, folks - keep it coming (and don't worry about telling me what's wrong - that's how I'll be able to make her perfect!) Thanks again, eirian

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 4:57 PM

Oh, Eirian, you're a woman?! Now I'm trying to remember if I may have said anything to you "out of place." If I did, you could send my wife after me. She'd beat me up, grin. As for "abundance chests," well let's just say my wife is a very beautiful woman. Ouch.

wgreenlee1 ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 5:15 PM

the breasts need some workthose look kinda washed out,I suppose a bump map would help but still maybe theres something you can do*,needs some highlights also in all the right places*

Jim Burton ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 5:36 PM

Looks pretty good to me, I like the hair too. ;-) One comment though, and this is sort of a "style" thing, and you texture is like most of them I've seen- you see a distinct edge to the outside of the nipple (Jim can't remember what that part is called - areloria (sp?) (maybe)) on most people.

Try this link. Some texture creation tips I hadn't seen before.

Hi, Jim! I can see what you mean about the nipples, but the weird thing is the texture map I've drawn doesn't have that distinct line. My guess is it's something in the UV maping, but I don't know how to fix it. At least not yet. I'll keep playing. Haven't finished the body bump map yet. It's almost 3am where I am...so the rest is going to have to wait. Oh, and Ron - it takes a h--l of a lot to offend me, though I can't remember you saying anything "inappropriate". Far more likely my 'other life' would make a nice guy like you step back...have you seen my fiction? :-)

ravenfeeder ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 8:03 AM

Eirian, I just read your comment about "men's fantasies" and I want to tell you that not all men fantasize about large breasts. That's one problem I always had with the "Playboy pin-up" image. I always thought smaller breasts were much more attractive (sexier). I thought your new texture was rather nice. I also think it's interesting that people here in this graphic arts world are frequently also creative in other areas. I've written several novels myself (none published yet) and I've been a painter (oils, watercolors, etc) for years (some of them HAVE sold). Good luck with your new Vicky texture.

Crescent ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 11:18 AM

The texture seems a bit too grey to me. That's one thing that I've noticed about a lot of Vicki textures that make them look generic - they all have that odd tint to the skin. If she's Caucasian, her skin should have more pink and be a bit lighter. If she's tanned, her skin should have more pink and brown. For other ethnicities, either a touch more yellow or red plus at least a hint of brown.

This is take 2 on the head texture. Next step is to add some makeup. Crescent: I think it's the lighting that makes it look a little grey. Her skin colour is actually fairly close to my own...but poser lighting is always tricky - I think "real" skin ends up looking wrong under the lighting. I'll be doing different skin shades anyhow. Ron: mail me privately if you want links to my fiction. A lot of it is adult so I can't post the links here.

farang wrote: Better yet, how about a new character like this with not only new body morphs but a magnet set or morph target to apply to the clothes so that they fit the new character. Well, this should be good news for you: My Shari 2 will be like that. The magnets won't be included in the product itself (since I'm still working on them) but will be provided separately for free :-)

Eowyn ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 4:48 PM

oh and eirian: Great work. She's got a fascinating face, not one of those very typical Vicki faces!

Kiera ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 5:27 PM

Great improvements here. The greater variation in tone adds so much detail.
