All this talk about Black and White Photography has got me going. Started digging through the archives a bit, looking for images shot on film that I rarely use. This is one of my all time favorite shots, yet I was using film and even a setup that I rarely use. Finder wants more in depth info, so here you go.

This was shot at about 10 minutes to complete sunset (at my back). Wind gusts up to about 30-50 mph( sorry, I'm american and suck at the metric system).

I used Kodak tri-x 400 pushed to 800 for more speed. (for this shot I was willing to accept the grain.) I even used a tripod, although the wind still nearly took out my setup.
Don't have the exposure records on hand, but I know the f/stop was maxed on my 300mm vivitar lens...f/22. Shutter speed was probably somewhere in between 1/30 and 1/125?
Camera body was an OLD nikon FM. I also used the TTL meter.

Developed in HC-110 dil. B
Originally printed on Ilford FiberBase Multigrade IV

For shots like this I will generally use a 4x5 view camera with T-Max 100 or 400 and meter using a handheld spot meter....Although If you really want to get pissed at photography, just try and use a view camera in high winds.

Whew! I hope that will tide you over Finder.

"(sorry, I'm american and suck at the metric system)." Well, you better learn it quickly, cause I heard from a Canadian friend that Canada is making plans for Global Domination....and they use the metric system :P Anyway, love the photo....awesome stuff.....would love to see more =)

Wow, that sky is awesome, with that one lone tall tree - beautiful image! And you're not alone, I'm severely "metrically challenged", too, LOL!

This is a fantastic image...the quality of the light on the ridge of the hill, combined with the clouds, is just unreal!

nplus eh? I think I detect a zone system term. This is one images that hit me as great before my brain even processed what it was looking at. Rork1973 -you're right about us Canadians. WE WILL RULE THE WORLD. Someday. And if you wan't your sorry asses saved then you will have to give us (as I point my pinky finger to my chin) A MILLION DOLLARS (Canadian). I hope you like hockey. HAH HAH HAH HAH!

Where were you the three DMZ. What happened to all of the trees? 50 MPH is roughly 80KPH. Remember good people. The point of a measurement system is to get into the system and STAY THERE. One does not have to spend all of their time converting to another measurement system. OK I fell better now. Hey NPLUS-When did you snap this picture? BTW good to know you weren't blown away by near huricane force winds!!!!! Bsteph

OK you guys - now I'm really starting to think that there's something to this black&white thing. Look at that -- will you just LOOK at that! See? Ya see? Joe

The ONLY postwork is brightness/contrast/burn/dodge.....just like in a real darkroom....matter of fact I actually used my old print record to re-do this digitally.
