Subject: The importance of pubic hair?

ok, I've been working really hard on a commercial texture package and have finally created a body texture I like enough.. but I have a problem with pubic hair, I can't draw it very well and I REALLY don't want to go scrounging around porn sites to find one good enough to use. So my question is how critical is it as a purchase point? Basic outline of the package: 9 shades of vicky 1 or 2 body textures per shade multiple head textures per shade 1 transmap for lashes multiple transmaps for upper eyebrows multiple eye maps tutorials for using vicky gobs of mat poses (unknown number of possibilities) unknown number of character poses (probably faces only) collection of generic texture tiles (I haven't counted) collection of coordinating clothing textures (in works)

side note: currently Vicky only has a darker area "smeared" to indicate where the pubic hair would be.

Whew I thought I was going to have to run from crabs. Pubic seems to be a standard now, I would go with Pubic but you can always download the pubic hair prop, I thought I saw a mound prop someplace.

I can't download someone else's work for a commercial product. I have textures with pubic hair already that I can (and do) use for non-commercial items. I need these textures to be 100% mine, so I guess I'll need to try my hand at painting them on again. But going on past experience I don't expect the results to be pretty.

These look very nice. Personally, I've come to prefer textures without pubic hair. Most of the included ones don't look that great unless they're copied from a photo. There are a couple of nice PH Props available free and they allow you to play with transmaps, color resize them, etc. I think this is the way to go for realism. My suggestion would be leave them bare and in the readme, mention where the props can be obtained. Then, do your best at painting some, but make them small sections that can be composited in a paint program if desired. Doesn't make sense to include two complete versions of every texture for just the pubic area. There should be some non-porn sites where you can find nude photos, but then that still wouldn't be 100% your work either it seems.

For me pubic hair isn't important at all since I don't do nudes and the pubes are covered by clothes or made invisible anyway.

Some one was going to have a go at making a real blonde. Did you suceed ???

Impudicus Rex ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 9:26 AM

Don't bother with the pubic hair... use a razor rash texture instead.

shelly ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 9:34 AM

Using a public hair prop is far superior. I would rather not have to remove the painted on one.

Oooops

thgeisel ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 11:38 AM

Perhaps we should make a forum for public pubic hair :-))

lmckenzie ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 12:19 PM

Hmm, I've heard rumors that there are also some folks who prefer to shave the area in question, not to mention the old bikini wax. In short (dare I say short & curly), there is a variety of realism which can be depicted. Using a prop here is as logical as using a (head) hair prop, for the same reasons. As for painting, the fur tool in EyeCandy 4000 can produce some interesting (if not necessarily realistic) hair. I also agree with Impudicus Rex, a nice razor rash would be certainly be something new.

Personally. I like to see pubic hair absent or kept to a minimum. I always end up adjusting textures myself anyway, and find it such a pain to remove it.

lmckenzie ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 2:12 PM

The public has spoken - no pubic. Seriously, these look too nice (especially the darker ones), to sweat the hair. Just go with them.

I'd say go without on the pubic texture, and if there are any free props out there, link to 'em in the product README or HTML page that you provide w/ the CD (or build one. Hmmm... I wonder if there's any out there that would compliment the kyokohair-style of texturing...? It would be interesting to say the least.) Also, using a prop instead of texture has a big advantage, in that it would allow the artist to change its color to suit the model's natural hair color up top (red, blonde, brown, auburn, grey, etc...) Them's my $.02, /P

well that'll make it easier for me too.

giggle away.

AprilYSH ( ) posted Sat, 12 January 2002 at 8:56 PM

giggle i made a pubic hair prop for Vicki a while back when this was mentioned... cos i couldn't be bothered looking for any existing ones that day! mine's at 3-darena freebies. the only restriction on mine is no selling the prop itself. you can refer to it in your readme and such methods. (now i know Traveller has some too, which are probably way more advanced. not sure where it is exactly though. ) anyway, it was so funny i couldn't even bring myself to do a proper thumbnail. lol

Here's the link to April's great PH prop for Vicky. If you ask her nicely, perhaps she'd let you distribute it with your package. And thus the end to another hair-raising saga. Tonto, our work is done here. "Description: Transmappable two layers to simulate pubic hair, smart propped to Vicki. License: May be used for commercial and non commercial renders and may be redistributed in whole or in part."

hey thanks for the kind words :) but, fyi i can't allow commercial redistribution cos i made it starting from vicki's own mesh. i didn't know how to create completely from scratch back then. sorry! feel free to include it in a freebie addon pack to your character or something, it's only a small filesize. :) anyway, i've noticed a lot of people are doing extra advertising by putting addons in freestuff which mention their commercial package... it probably works, cos a lot of times i only find out about a commercial item cos i liked the look of the freestuff! i might try to redo it without cutting from vicki's mesh and so we can have this simple freebie which allows commercial redistribution. it sure would be a nice trend for the majority to make transed ph for the same reasons the eyebrows are transed, AND mike has it (i think), so why shouldn't she? ;) yet another long boring answer to a short question sigh
