Subject: What's with the Poser kids?

x2000 ( ) posted Mon, 14 January 2002 at 11:16 AM · edited Tue, 11 February 2025 at 12:44 PM

OK, I gave in and got the Mil kids from Daz, but now I'm wondering about the stock P4 Nude Boy and Nude Girl. What's the deal here? There are no clothes for them! The adult clothes don't conform to them. What the hell good are they and why are they even there?!? Has anyone ever made anything for them out there somewhere on the net? Clothes, textures, anything? Has anybody ever used them for anything? Are they really as completely useless as they seem?!?!?

Hiya! There are some cloths made for the kids around on the net. I have TRIED to make some, - but discovered myself, - and in conversations with others that there probably is something wrong with the standard P4 kids, - and that that's the probable reason for the lack of cloths for them. I'm not skilled enough to find out what exactly is wrong and fix it, - and if anybody out there are, - I'd be a happy camper too. Rubio has made some nice cloths for the nude girl. I did have some problems in posing her. So I suspect he's had some difficulties too. Anyways, - here is my attempt of making a sweater for her. It's kinda "almost" conforming. And I am on the point of giving up making it REALLY conforming :) Hopefully there are some people out there who might know something about this. Britt

Well, I've been wanting to sit down and do some intense practicing making morph targets and conforming clothes. Maybe the Poser kids would make good test subjects. I don't know about anything being "wrong" with them, I'll have to play around with them some more and see how it goes. But I'm just mystified as to why MC or CL or whoever would stick them in there with no clothes at all. They seem more of an afterthought than anything else. Weird.

By the way, I'm not sure exactly what problems you're having, but I think the sweater looks really nice:)

the problem with the poser kids is that children aren't needed as much for images, most use adult figures. Therefore there isn't as much stuff for them, which in turn makes them less likely to be used (circular problem) problem 2 with the P4 kids, same problem that dork has to a greater extint - They don't have the morphs. there are some clothes out there for them, poserworld has some and I think ghastley has a few items as well. (sweater looks good btw)

Britt they are a nightmare to conform, i gave up and just used the kid cr2 and a pose button, to be honest that way is faster and it easier to fix problems anyway..conforming is overrated LOL.........Steve

Well, those P4 kids aren't very realistic or attractive. The Mil kids are so much better. I don't really use any of the P4 characters anymore. And forget the baby. It's just plain ugly. I wonder if there's a plan for a Millennium baby that looks less alien than the one that comes with Poser. Melanie

Well, in my opinion, all of the default characters are pretty ugly without some morphing. They don't call P4 Nude Man the Dork for nothing...;)

Their faces aren't proportioned quite right. The eyes are spaced apart the wrong distance and they seem to have somewhat flat faces, even Posette (whom I prefer to call Dorkette) is pretty weird looking in comparison to the Millennium figures. But the child characters in particular are pretty much useless. I suppose the only thing they could be useful for is as display mannequins in a store scene. Same for the rest of the default characters. They all just have a plastic, unnatural look, even with good morphs and texture maps, which does improve them, they still just don't live up to the Millennium people. I find it interesting that people are still using them. Melanie

I use Vicki P4 simply because I have so many clothes for P4, particularly from PWFW. The body shape isn't bad, it's the face that's horrid on the default P4 figure. Actually, the larger thighs and visible hipbones are sort of nice compared to Vicki's somewhat alien default state, and I have seen some excellent renders using Posette. Dork is fairly hopeless, but I have found Mike P4 to be extremely useful. They are very useful for large scenes or scenes that will be postworked, since they don't come with 6 bazillion morphs that are useless for figures that are mostly clothed in unmorphing clothing. The kids are hopeless and the baby looks like bizarre. I like Vicki and Mike for mostly nude scenes for their superior morphing abilities. Zygote did the P4 people, and I think it is pretty clear that Zygote (now Daz for the Poser stuff, for anyone who doesn't know) has learned quite a bit over the years. Still, I think they broker too much stuff. It would be so nice if they did some of their own clothing sets for their people similar to the brokered morphing clothing packs.

The clothing is why I love Vicki 2. She wears all the P4Fem clothing, so for me, Posette isn't even necessary anymore. I've come very close to deleting the default figures, but I may need them for background extras some time and I keep them in there. Melanie
