Subject: Is there a free cr2 editor? I'm having wordpad woes

Poppi ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 6:33 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 11:34 AM

Okay...most of you know my computer got stolen, and, I lost pretty much everything. The cds I burned are so disorganized, that I get lost going through them. I made a bunch of models, though, and today, I set about conforming a couple of them. Well, I am doing something wrong with wordpad, because my little shrugging guy doesn't even show up. (Wordpad is saving them as dress.cr2.txt.....nooooo I am not a blonde, either.) Is there a free cr2 editor? Or, does anyone have a clue on what I am screwing up with saving in wordpad? Help...I am so ready to cry at this point.

It's ok Poppi. Just rename your file to dress.cr2. =)

Don't panic!!!!!

John Stalling's CR2 Editor is still in the freestuff. Just do a search on "Stalling". For Wordpad if you save with "Save as type: Text Document" and write in the CR2 extension it should be ok (was on mine :) Else just change the file extension in Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps but if you need a rShldr to CR2 on you know where to find me smilie.gif

John Stallings' CR2Editor here in Free Stuff is version 1.52, which apparently has a bad rep.

Version 1.51 can be found at the posertech yahoo group. It's also available here.

Morph Manger 4.0, by Mason (Mr. X) can be used for .cr2 work; you'll find it at the 3D Comic Collective, under Miscellaneous Downloads.

dwilmes' CR2 Edit utility is found here, but it's a commercial product.

There is an excellent free text editor named Editpad Lite. It opens up even Vicki with no effort. And you can save out from EditpadLite as pz2, cr2, etc,etc without the .txt extension tacked on the end.

Wow...thank you all. I feel so much better, but, won't sleep until I get a couple things conforming. When my computer got stolen....well, I had no computer at home for 3 weeks....so, I went to work, and just made a bunch of rhino models...I know...It really sounds dumb, but, to me that was soothing, like crocheting, or, embroidery...small stuff with "threads". Now, I would like to use some of the things. (My Vicki and Michael clothing packs 1 only loaded the rsrs and cr2s....well, dang it those obj. files are somewhere in my disorganized cd collection.) Actually, it would be a very good challenge for me to make all of them new, yes? You all have been so very kind. I really appreciate it. Pop...Pop...Poppi!!! Yup...poppin' again ;*)

Please refer to this thread if you are considering purchasing CR2 Edit 5 created by Daniel Wilmes in the future.

Yikes! That's what I get for not visiting C&D in the last few hours. Thanks for the heads-up, nikitacreed. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Looks like when you pasted your link into the URL box, you forgot to wipe the original "http://". This one should work.

Poppi ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 8:24 PM

I saw that thread in C&D. Could it be, like SteffyZZ, the creator of this is just really worried about warez? And, warez seems to be taking a "napster" turn of events, from what i see. it used to be, i was too stupid to access it. but, a thread in c&d made it feasible for even the likes of me to access some "sharing" servers. and NOOOO...i don't. not 'cause it is illegal. 'cause, i worry about my kharma...that, and computer viruses. i sure hope you get your email really soon and can use your new program.

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 8:39 PM

Maybe Poppi...probably actually. But...whatever his reasons for the need to email him for the serial number is irrelavant to me now. All he had to do was ignore me and send me my serial number and I would have gotten over it. LOL! He chose to be rude and refuse to give me the serial number for a product I legally purchased. And...just acting weird with telling me his personal problems and all that shit about the "family" I wouldn't fit into. :o The whole sitch is just weird. LOL! But I am not going to except a refund....OH NO...he done pissed this little attitude carrying chica off. Now I will have the program....for no other reason but SPITE. I'm petty that way. ;o)

Ooops. Thank Little Dragon! LOL!

rockets ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 8:43 PM

Xena turned me on to editpadlite and it's great! You can even have more than one file at a time opened and it doesn't get bogged down. :-)

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

Poppi ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 8:54 PM

Wow...I hate it when i feel spiteful. It is such a bad feeling when you are pissed over the top at someone, and can't get satisfaction. OMG....I have to say this: Why don't you demand an apology? If you don't get one...well, then, just hope your "apology" thread does not get deleted by the gods that be. sorry....tacky....but, hey, now...i made my beer money this week...i am a little happier...and, i could not resist.

Xena ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 9:35 PM

I think in this situation Emily you have every reason to be pissed off. Hope your migraine is feeling better hun.

lalverson ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 9:49 PM

I think I bought that app from daz and it keeps locking up. I don't recall if I removed it , or just never use it. I use the older free one with the double window pane, a far better app..

neurocyber ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 9:55 PM

Thanks Little_Dragon for the links. That 1.51 version of the free editor has eluded me for a month of, "server not founds." Looks like your link is the first working one to it that I've gotten. :) :) :)

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2002 at 10:27 PM

rockets - EditPadLite is the SH*T! Pardon my french!! I love that text editor!! I use it for everything! heh =OD

Xena - As far as the other stuff...I got my number. It's over and done. He didn't apologize...but I don't want his apology anyway. As a matter of fact....I will be to damn soon if I never see his name again in my lifetime. LOL!

And my migraine is subsiding. Probably wasn't an actual migraine....but an angr induced headache attack. I feel better now. ;o)

Poppi - Yah...it sux when you aer spiteful and can't get satisfaction. But it's fabulous when your spiteful and not only do you get your satisfaction....but you find a long list of supporters in your spitefulness. That's the best. heehee

lalverson - I am going to test it out now. It would be hilarious if I went thru all of this only to want a refund on Monday morning because the program isn't what I wanted.

Boy...normally I am a real sweetheart....but MAN was I pissed. Haven't been that pissed in awhile. Felt kinda good.

With CR2Edit, it might me because Dan has a constant stream of updates to the program. Although, Render gives vendors access to customers' e-mail using the address registered here, it can only be gotten at from here. Some of the addresses bounce. Maybe DAZ is not so forthcoming or maybe Dan wants an up to date address book on his system. While I am willing to say "feces happens" when someone is paranoid about communication, could be that Dan really wants 100% contact with valid customers. He does a lot of updates, especially since we keep finding new things to do to Poser.

saxon ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2002 at 5:34 AM

In support of CR2Edit, I've had no problems with this software, in fact for JCM's it's practically essential. I had a minor glitch due to a Windows update but Dan sorted that out. Some of us still have a long road to travel...
