Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 18 10:25 am)
I bought them and I like the look, but I must confess I seldom use them out of memory considerations. The kits take up a fair chunk of memory; which slows my machine down, esp if I want to load a couple of Mikes or Vickys. But then, my currnt PC is maxed out at 256M. I'm planning on upgrading to a new PC that will take up to 3G of ram, just so I can use this (and other things) to their full potential. If you have the memory, and the need for a really large set, I think they're probably worth it, but otherwise I think you'd get more milage out of something like Nerd's backdrop.
As long as I stay away from the "water" parts the sets work fine, I can't seem to get the hang of the water terrains but that could be me. 23+ years as a merchant mariner can cause a certain aversion against the liquid element :) I use the light presets also outside the sets and to be honest I mix 'n match just about any part with anything with variable results. Imho there's a lot in these sets but they want some experimentation to get predictable results. I wouldn't advice the sets to people who'se sole interest is in the dressing&undressing of Vicky & co.
I bought Harvy's Kits from here at Renderosity, assume the kit is the same... and I did these: http://www.lynescreations.com/harveyw.htm http://www.lynescreations.com/fallday.htm and tell a little about them under the images. I did try another scene with complex figures - Mike and Vicki with clothing figures and ended up with a lock up of my Poser 4.3.. I have a heavy duty machine, but I am not sure Poser itself is set up to handle this much!! I do enjoy rendering scenes in poser as you can see here: http://www.lynescreations.com/poserwor.htm Nerd's backdrop tool is very nice and does not take up that much memory in poser... each one has pros and cons.. Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!
Lyne, that is some wonderful work. I have Nerd3d's Backdrop and it works fine under most circumstances. I had a problem with one picture and background. People kept telling me the background was all broken up. I just stopped using the backdrop tool for awhile after that. Maybe it was just the one background.
Little_Dragon the light sets are included and are all 'pointing' to various objects; plateau, sea, sky dome, etc. Also the scene is to scale for poser people - it is scaled up about 1200 times! As the lights are right now it takes over a half hour just to render the shadow maps for this. I don't want to increase the map size any more. And I don't have a wimpy machine either - a dual G4 Mac with 1 gig memory and Poser with 800 megs. I corresponded with the artist, Harvey Mann, on this but we didn't find a suitable answer for the large scale scenes. Don't get me wrong this is a great package especially for smaller scale scenes. I just have big aspirations!! ;-)

I've been looking at these kits for months. I now have them all. I seem to recall someone out there had bought these kits? I would love to hear from anyone who uses it. Is the 3D Worlds Kit decent? Does it compare favorably with other programs that cost more? Do you have any tips or tutorials?!
