Subject: Mike's Hair

Kiera ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 1:06 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 7:20 AM

I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting tired of re-sizing Vicki/Posette hair to fit onto Mike. I don't like the "modern" styles available for Mike (wonder wedge, short hair, flat-top, etc) much at all. I know Mehndi is coming out with the Elven Court Hair, and even though it looks great and will have tons of morphs and whatnot, I can use Vairesh's maiden hair to get a similar look. If I didn't already own the Maiden Hair I would buy Mehndi's package, but I do, so I can't justify buying it unless it has a ton of morphs that achieve totally different looks. I like Lourdes' short hair and use that more often than not. Having said all that, does anyone know of a good "long hair" set-up for Mike in some marketplace or free somewhere? Straight or mildly wavy, not feathered like Anton's full and feathered. (Nice looking hair, but just doesn't suit my needs.)

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 1:45 PM

The Casual Hair that just showed up in the Marketplace a month ago? Flat out, incredible. Its a monster to work with, but well worth the effort.

This is the Gonbei hair from kozaburo with some of its morphs applied.

I think the DAZ Wonder Wedge expansion kit offers lots of flexibility when combined with the Wonder Wedge of course.

nikitacreed ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 3:50 PM

Hey VS...can you post some renders of that Casual Hair?

And I'm with kieraw...I don't like any of the hair that I have for Mike so far. I want the Brandon Lee as the Crow long curled hair. I also like the look of Mehndi's New hair...but I need to see some more shots of it. Alot of shots..cause so far...I can do it wiht Maiden Hair. (thanks for reminding me kieraw...I didn't realize that until you said it. ;o)

This is the causal hair for Mike from neftis. This hair eats MHz and RAM for breakfest. ;P

nikitacreed ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 4:24 PM

Hmmm...I better not get it then. LOL! Small files eat my mHx and RAM. ;o)

bloodsong ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 4:49 PM

heyas; i use kozaburo's wave hair. no, it isn't made for mike. but you load mike, pop in the hair you like, spend your agonizing five to ten minutes making it fit him... then re-save it to the hair library as a mike hair. then next time you loaded, it will glom right onto his head, no problem. dont have any pics to throw in here, off hand, but you can see them in my rendo gallery.

Damn bloodsong was faster. :P There is the wave hair. Really simple to setup: Scale up to 105% Move somewhat up and fore.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 5:13 PM

Yeah, but that work of Neftis is really something and a half. Ive used it once, and youre right: its a killer. But the multiple layers and transparencies make it look incredible.

Kiera ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 5:23 PM

Nikita: I would love if it someone made hair like that for Mike. That is exactly the kind of hair I am talking about. I have all the free Koz hairs and use those most of the time for Mike, and I have resaved them for use on Mike. I just would really like to see a nice hair package for Mike. =/ The casual hair is too short, although it looks good, and I am not happy with the length morphs on the wedge package. (I am not being critical of the artist, it just doesn't suit me from a stylistic standpoint.) =) Ideally, I would like some talented person out there to make a morphing hair set for Mike that allows for mess, pony tails, hair in face, loose.. etc. The problem with using women's hair is that men tend to part their hair differently. To me it just LOOKS like woman's hair on Mike. I want Mike to have manly longish, messy hair. ;)

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 23 January 2002 at 7:59 PM

The casual hair looks like spider webs. Sorry but it doesn't look like any real hair I've ever seen Marque

You can use a transmap on the long curls hair figure that comes with Poser. This quick and dirty render uses the texture that comes with Ghostofmacbeth's Orc character at DAZ. His clever use of the figure only really utilises the back and lower parts of the hair, so that's where the good transmapped bit are. It shows what's possible, though.

Total Hair isn't bad for Mike. But as always: you have to play with the dials to make it fit for him. But I agree with kieraw, it would be really great if someone could make a cool morphing hair set for Mike.

Kiera ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 2:34 AM

Hmm, that thing PJF has going on looks pretty good. But the fact remains that Mike's hair options are as limited as his clothes. =(

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 7:13 AM

{{{{I know Mehndi is coming out with the Elven Court Hair, and even though it looks great and will have tons of morphs and whatnot, I can use Vairesh's maiden hair to get a similar look.}}}} Only the LE version coming included with the Wood Elf package has even the most remote resemblance in style to Vairesh's Maiden Hair. Even there, there are distinct differences and higher level functions that you won't find in Maiden Hair, such as complete posability of the braid which is an IK linked figure. The Full version which no one here has seen publically, has a great deal of difference in potential styles that one may create. One of the nicer features of the full version are some wispy "messy curls" sidelocks, underlocks, and overlayer locks, all of which can make for many different looks when combined with the longer straigher backlocks. Also, the main back body of the hair on both versions is much longer than that of Maiden Hair, and much more full bodied. This is no sleek lean hair, instead it is a full and masculine mane of hair from all viewing angles. The back of the full hair may be worn with a very full ponytail, or with a braid. The pony tail is able to be resized for both smaller and larger looks. Since this hair was designed at lower back length to begin with, it still looks good when extended through morphs to twice it's length, which on Vicki and Mike is well below their hips in the mid thigh range, and on the children is knee length. You can at last, do Lady Godiva renders, since there is enough hair here to feasably have covered this daring woman of renown. The full version of UltraSalon II will support versions of this hair for Mike, Vicki, and the Millenium Girls. All areas of the full version are IK linked. Not just the braid. So if you wish the locks to be even wilder, you may merely pose them to your liking. If you wish the bangs to blow back in the wind as in Final Fantasy, merely pose them. You do not have to live with the limitations of preset morphs anymore to complete your renders, though there are also morphs on the hair for achieving even more variety. The full version features two set of hair maps, identical in all ways save file size and dimensions. One set being med-low resolution, suitable for less powerful machines, and for shots that are not closeups. The hair defaults to this at setup. The second set is a high resolution set of textures suitable for those with very powerful machines, and also for very closeup renders, as well as for very large resolution renders aimed at print. A little closer to release of full UltraSalon II - ElvenCourt hair package, I will be posting many examples of renders, as well as a brief FAQ of the features.

Kiera ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 7:32 AM

Now this sounds much more promising than I originally thought! Now.. tell me one more thing Mehndi.. are you doing MAT poses for multiple colors also? If this package looks as good as it sounds (and I am sure it will), I am so there. =)

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 7:41 AM

Yes, I have Black, Platinum, Ash Blonde, Auburn, Brunette, Dryad (Green), Selkie (Blue), and Mermaid (Bluish-lavender-green) thus far. These are all easy MAT pose changes :) Also, setting certain areas invisible so that you create new style looks are easy MAT pose changes as well.

Kiera ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 7:47 AM

Sounds great Mehndi, thanks for taking the time to explain all the morphs and types of hair planned for Ultra Elven Court. I can't wait to see the preview images. =)

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 7:52 AM

smiles I hope to have some genuine preview renders sometime in the next couple of days or so. Right now, I am still in the horrid stage of sitting at my machine 12 hours a day vainly attempting to make the third deadline I am late on for Daz with it :( I am afraid this hair suffers from creeping featurism ;) I just keep thinking up (and getting thought up for me) so many things to add on and do with it to make it better ;) Blame my beta testers, it is all their fault ;P If there is a particular color folks might like that I have not hit on, I am taking requests ;) And remember, though it began as a masculine hairstyle, somehow when tested on the females, it looked just as pretty on them as if it were a feminine hairstyle, so colors for girls are in too ;)

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 11:09 AM

Hmmm...sounds reall really cool Mehndi. I hope that you will include alot of renders for us to look at. But so far...I am getting more and more interested in this new hair.

Looks cool PJF...but still far from what I want. LOL!

mi-scha ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 11:26 AM

If there is a particular color folks might like that I have not hit on, I am taking requests ;) Why yes. ;) Red and maybe a two-color MAT (blond with darker strands).

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 12:16 PM

Hihi Mi-scha, now... I have Auburn, a nice rich color, what many think of as red. When you think of red, are you thinking of the literal primary color red, a deep rusty auburn, or perhaps the orange that many call a carrot top red? There are so many interpretations of red, if you will give me a clue I will do my best for you :) I also plan to try a two color mat, but I am not sure how well that will turn out since the mat files adjust the color under the platinum hair... so they would adjust it for the whole part, not just one area of the part. Nikita, now mind you, this is a pulled back in the crown of the head type of hairstyle. Even with some wispy things going on, it is still pulled back in the crown. So one does not have alot of long dangly locks happening from very high up as with a style such as the Conforming Curls that comes with Poser 4. From about his ears up, the hair fits relatively flush to his head, as if gathered up, and pulled back and fastened with something. Very much like the Elves wore theirs in the Tolkien movie, and like The Scorpion King wears his in the upcoming movie, etc :)

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 12:28 PM

Oh...I understand that Mehndi. :o) I am not expecting it to create my much desired Crow hairstyle. LOL! I am still interested in the ElvenCourt hair though. I need some Mike Hair that is flexible...and this does sound pretty flexible. As far as textures...if you have a raven black with highlights and a nice mousy brown....I'm good. ;o)

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 1:12 PM

Nikita, now don't tell a soul, but a little birdy told me, that a huge hossy male rock star package is coming down the pike as UltraSalon III, don't you know ;) I think you are gonna find some of those looks there :)

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 1:13 PM

Oh, and my black is so raven, it has a tiny bluish tinge at certain points even, like all jet black hair does ;)

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 1:45 PM

Glad you liked my hair PJF. Knew it would work in other instances okay but never actually used it that way.

mi-scha ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 1:51 PM

Your Auburn, as you describe it, looks a lot like my Red. ;) hoping that the two color mat works out

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 2:28 PM

file_261296.JPG

I hope so too Mi-scha :) All of you take a look at my color selections so far, and if you wish, take the "platinum" one, which is the silvery white one which colorizes best, and adjust it's hue to a color you might wish to see, and I will do my best to create a color like that in the hair within the limits of my skill level :)

mi-scha ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 2:51 PM

Now I wonder what to do with green hair. Ah, I know, I will make a pic of my ex. ;)

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 2:58 PM

LOL!!!! Actually, the Green hair was a request that I tried to fill already ;) I am calling it Dryad since they are of the Fae world, and reputedly had green hair :)

Cin- ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 3:46 PM

PINK! I wanna see PINK! Okay I'm done now.

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 3:57 PM

Pixie Pink coming up! ;) Now... would that be a pale pastel pink, or one of these hot mamma magenta pinks?

Cin- ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 4:01 PM

Pale pastel... very soft... cotton candy pink only not quite as solid pink, little bits of white would be excellent!

PJF ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 4:02 PM

Magic Pink Pony pink! ;-)

Mehndi ( ) posted Thu, 24 January 2002 at 4:06 PM

Hrm... wicked evil thoughts. See what you made poor depraved old Auntie Mehndi do? Put her mind right into the gutter ;) But 'spose I would get sued by Mattel if I made "My Pretty Pony Pink?" ;p
