Subject: PZ3 Files removing textures

I have a passion for making scenes and experimenting with lots of textures and models but as a result when i finally have finished a scene, the textures loaded for experimentation but are no longer assigned to any model remain when i save the PZ3 file and as a result these PZ3 files can be quite big!!! Is there anyway to Save a PZ3 file then edit it later and remove the textures i dont need anymore so that i can reduce the file size and not have to do the whole thing again with just the textures i finally decided to use. Thank you RoDPanther

It would be good if Poser allowed to remove redundant textures from there textures menu after you loaded them. I dont know if Poser 5 will have that feature.... Thank you RoDPanther

Well, what I do is after I create a model I load it into poser and save it in my figures library with no textures, then I save it as a pz3, with no textures, and when I want to use it, I just call up my original add my textures to that figure, save that pz3, then when I want to do another using the same model, I load up the original that has no textures. Sharen PS: that is the best I can tell you.

I must be missing something. A PZ3 is just a CR2 with lights and cameras and render presets. There is only one texture per Material (well, only one in each category texture-bump-reflection,..) The entries have no real effect on file size. Now, if you are re-opening the PZ3 without flushing Poser, this is something else. Rather than keep Poser open after a lot of experimentation, I treat it like an Etch-A-Sketch. I pull that sheet up frequently. This gets ride of unassigned textures. Poser also seems to get ugly with RAM and if you try to render after doing a lot of other stuff, or do a lot of renders in series, it is liable to go out for a break, not tell you, and forget to come back.

so even though i have assigned just one texture per material and all the textures are listed that i didnt use in the PZ3 file they wont be loaded when i open it again?

You have to exit and reload poser to dump the extraneous textures. Sometimes though, you can miss reassigning textures in multi-material files such as a character file (for example). To catch 'em, you can load the cr2 file into a text editor to see if just the textures you're using are referenced.

That is how it works, yes. They will stay with Poser in any one session, but this is internal to the program. The Library files can only have the last file that was assigned to a category in each material. Your alternates go, when Poser goes. But to further complicate the situation, someone recently noted that there are parts of Poser left behind that do not get cleared until the system is re-booted. I do not know which Win versions are involved, but using Win98, I have noticed a difference, even using a RAM scrubber. And Poser will only use a limited amount of RAM with Win98 and some others, no matter how much your system has, this from either DAZ or CL. If I am going to switch figures, I restart if there is any chance that I will be doing a render. When I do switch, I delete the current and open a new one. The replace function is glacially slow on my system.

This was a POSER 5 wishlist request from myself. There should be two additional options in the Menu>Render>Materials area: 1) Clear ALL loaded Textures. 2) Clear SELECTED Texture(s) Of course you'll have to be VERY CAREFUL with option 1 :)
