Subject: Creating an .rsr file

I have an obj file that I want Poser to recognize in it's menu (figures, poses, faces, lighting, etc). How do I create an .rsr file for it?

In Poser 4.03 (not pro pack, not Mac) when you save something to a library, Poser creates an RSR file automatically. Pro Pack does not use RSRs. Neither does Mac.

Ok, I stand corrected. I need to know how to get Poser to create an entry in it's menus with a picture of the object (not dure what the exact file format type is).

When you "save" to the library, Poser will create the thumbnail. If you use the same name, Poser will prompt you if you want to overwrite the existing file. cheers, dr geep ;=]

If it's an OBJ file, you'll probably want to save it as a prop. Just import the object into Poser, then open the Props library and select a folder. Click on the + at the bottom (add to library) and poser will do the job.

I had an idea that there was some way you could create .rsr files automatically for items that lacked them (many downloads don't come with them). Dunno what it is through. Otherwise means you have to load and then save back to create the .rsr.

I've just realised my mistake. I was confusing the .rsr files in the library directories with the .rsr files in the geometry directories. Same extension, totally different function. Duh ... are we talking brain dead design here?

Most files in Poser can be read (and edited with a text editor (at the editor's peril)) ;=]. Examples of these file types are: .pz3 ( complete Poser file with characters, lights, cameras, etc) [do not confuse with a .pz2 (pose) file] .ch2 (character file) .pp2 (prop file) .hr2 (hair file) .lt2 (light file) .pz2 (pose file - DO NOT confuse with .pz3) .hd2 (hand file) .obj (geometry file) (text file) etc, etc The above are text files. An .rsr file in the geometries section will be a binary data file of an .obj file (with the same filename). I suggest you don't mess with either of these files. ;=] ********************************************************* On the other hand, .rsr files are binary (data) files that are impossible (unless you can speak 1's and 0's) to read. Don't believe me? Load up your favorite word processor and open an .rsr file ... garbage, right? Dr. Geep's rule #46x - Don't EVER mess with .rsr files. Dr. Geep's rule #67j - Don't EVER mess with any files (unless you are certain what you're doing. If you have a corrupted file, don't try and fix it, get another copy and make sure you delete the previous copy (first!). Clear as mud? ;=] cheers, dr geep ;=]
