Hey. I've been doing all of my modelling with the terrain editor in Bryce, but it's getting too tedious. Can anybody recommend an inexpensive alternative to StudioMax or Lightwave that I could use? Bryce is awesome for texturing and landscapes, but I think it's time I get some software that's dedicated to modelling. Thanks for your input.

I recommend Rhino3D or Amapi3D. Links to them can be found in their respective forums----> I use Rhino3D exclusively for modelling and am quite happy with it.

There are a lot of modelling programs out there priced from free to outrageous. HamaPatch, Blender, and others are free depending on your OS. I prefer trueSpace but also use Amapi and Strata when they do the job better. Take a look at the page I've linked to above for a listing of a lot of programs, plus the current pricing and applicable operating system. Many of them also have demos available. -darlisa

I also use Rhino to model with. I found it fairly easy to use, and if I can do it anyone can. The Rhino forum here has lots of great tuts and everyone is willing to help out when you run into problems... it has a fully functioning demo that only limits the save to 25(you can still use it after that but you cant save anthing), and its well worth a look.

< inexpensive alternative to StudioMax or Lightwave > One of the cheaper ( but just as good ) higher end apps is Electric Image Universe.

I'm surprised nobody recommended Carreraby Eovia. The people who gave bryce its nifty interface, wrote it when they were still in business. I t sis the succesor to thier old Ray Dream Studio and Unifini-D modelers.

I've been having lots of luck with Blender, and the price is just right (free).
