Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
The OS may be y2k ready. But the OS and the apps are seperate items. Also many apps reference future dates. I can't see why they would in Poser. But it's very common in financial and insurance software. I worked at an insurance database software vendor in early 99 and we already had y2k hit us then when quoting apps started crashing left and right. On Unix systems which are built date wise just like Macs. Based on the number of seconds from 1970. Only problem was that the apps weren't written the same way as the OS. Y2K bugs won't and haven't been all hitting us at the stroke of midnight. They'll come in over time as various items refer or do lookups to post 2000 dates. Many of the bugs have already come and gone.

Actually it just sounds like a typical Mac problem I run into at least once a month with my customers. The OS gets into a permanent state after an app crash or a telecommunications glitch. Although there are other things you can try the easiest fix is: 1) Reboot off your latest OS CD (8.6 or 9) 2) delete your old System file, Finder and Finder prefs 3) reinstall off the CD the truly paranoid will do a "clean install" but then you will have the contents of your old system folder to deal with. The whole process will take 20-30 mins tops. If it still crashes then the problems goes much deeper. jje

How's everyone's app holding up today? My Mac copy of poser is in utter disentegration today. Constant failures to load textures I've used before. Crashing on some of them. Insisting bump maps aren't there when I'm just loading in a default library figure, and so on. Even trashed the entire app and all preferences and reinstalled from the CD. Same issues. Of course this Mac itself has started doing routine crashes in the last few days... The home PC so far is running fine. I guess in two to three days we'll all know how well our favorite toys are holding up. :)
