Subject: OK, what next? (Mike/Dork textures)

Kiera ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 2:33 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 12:41 AM

OK, I have textured one thing for Vicki and one thing for P4 woman. Now I want to do some textures for Mike and Dork. What are Mike and Dork missing? What sorts of textures do people want? Fantasy? Sci fi? Modern? Which items of clothing for Mike and Dork are just begging for some texturing attention? (If it's a free item, I can get it, obviously, if I don't have it already.) I was going to do some textures for Lourdes' armor for the P4M (a fairly simple enterprise.. bump + reflection map was what I had in mind) but was curious about what people want for the men. I am looking for ideas.. not promising anything. =)

VirtualSite ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 2:54 PM

We have more than enough fantasy gear. Mike and the P4guy need some real world stuff: mechanics overalls, work uniforms, that kind of thing. Skin textures that show grease on their faces and their hands. Things that make them real people, not just someones idea of a good time... Oops. Just realized my comment this morning about construction workers being a thing of beauty. =) Well, what the hell. If the blow-up doll look can please some people, others of us can enjoy the sight of a real guy, not some romance novel coverboy.

How about a good catman texture for Michael? Or even a bad one?

I think the Poserworld 'MIKE's flightsuits' would make a good mechanics overall. It comes with a PW subscription and is also a marketplace item (see link). It only needs a good texture.

Kiera ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 4:08 PM

Does he have a catman morph? I don't remember and don't have Poser open atm. I could try my hand at that.. dunno how realistic of a "skin" texture I could do, but I might be able to make a cat texture from pictures of my cats. ;) "Dirty" every-day clothes for Mike and Dork huh? I think I could possibly manage that. ;)

Kiera ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 4:10 PM

I could DEFINITELY do a mechanics overall texture for the flightsuit. Maybe I could do a clean and dirty option. I already have some great high-rez cloth textures I could use for that, in the right color even.

Michael 2 has a few cat-face morphs (nose, mouth, etc.) built in, but they aren't very strong, in my opinion. Victoria's seem to be better. I'm hoping that combining them with a cat texture might make the effect more convincing.

OK I just messed with Michael Cat Dude. Before I make a texture it would be best for me to find the right kind of face. ;) Opinions?

Interesting start. Can I see a profile?

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 6:08 PM

Littledragon - Well until I pulled 'em I'd say grab my tiger and lion textures for Mike. I made a total of 16 Mike textures (in the Shades of Mike Project) but had to pull all my downloads due to a massive bandwidth bill. I can mail you the textures though, if you like. The DLs will be back as soon as I rehost my domain. Clothing textures Bodysuit type mike skins (esp with Mike 2 out) 'ethnic' textures clothing and skins- Indian, Amerindian, Chinese, Japanese, African Better eyebrow/lash transmaps for mike addon bodyhair layers Lyrra

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 6:48 PM

I appreciate the offer, Lyrra. I can wait until you've got your domain up and running again. We dragons know all about patience.

I recommended your Shades of Mike Leo texture to Anzan, who's working on a Michael catman character (see thread). I forgot that you had a tiger texture in the batch, also.

Would you know of any decent catman face morphs for Michael? The ones that come with Michael 2 aren't as versatile as the animal-face morphs for Victoria.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 6:52 PM

kieraw, if you like, I can email you the catman .fc2 face file I created in Anzan's thread.

Kiera ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 8:00 PM

Yeah that's for sure. (Been playing some more.. getting closer but still not thrilled.) =)

Here we go again. Untextured and in Raven's texture.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 28 January 2002 at 8:30 PM

Good job with the brow. How'd you get it to arch like that? What Mike really needs are morphs to create an elongated muzzle. Victoria has those (the fox morph, for example), and I fail to understand why DAZ didn't include something similar in Michael 2.

There is one, I just found it. Bigfoot elognates the muzzle a bit. The eyebrows were one of the brow morphs, but NOT in group 2.. they are higher up. ;)

Same elognated morph, but from the front.

Wow -- thats very cool.

Phantast ( ) posted Tue, 29 January 2002 at 4:57 AM

The P4guy is the Cinderella of the Poser world. He needs stuff much more than Mike.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Tue, 29 January 2002 at 10:13 AM

Actually, Phantast, thats not entirely true. I have close to 800 megs of stuff for the P4Guy, and out of all of that I have a flexibility to create all manner of things, just by shifting things around, creating new textures and transmaps, and so on. Poor Mike is the one with the barren closet: if hes not a knight or warrior, hes pretty well stuck -- and how often do you wear tin hats to opening nights? =)

Anzan ( ) posted Tue, 29 January 2002 at 7:25 PM

Looks really good Kieraw! Anz

Phantast ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 5:12 AM

I must admit I've not tried to collect much for P4M; and as I don't have Mike, nothing for him. So I can only rely on my subjective impression that more people are releasing Mike stuff than P4M stuff. But I take your word for it. Is there a good site for P4M textures? I never seem to see them.

Kiera ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 9:17 AM

I don't see much in the way of P4M textures, just clothing and such. I have a TON of P4M clothes (thanks PoserWorld!). I have uh.. armor for Mike, and uh.. a clothing pack, and the combat jumpsuit from PoserWorld. =D Worse, all of the Mike clothes I have only fit him in his default body state, which makes all of his wonderful body morphs useless. =/ Thanks all for the comments. Since Lyrra has already done a tiger texture, I was thinking of doing either a lionish or a jaguarish texture. =)

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 10:08 AM

John on the Run (johnontherun.ezdir.net) has a great selection of body textures, ad youll find more at The Penguin Bar (penguinbar.com), although these are a little more cartoonish and need some tinkering to make them work. Ive also found that if you deconstruct some of the files at 3d-cc.com, youll find real gems.

Lyrra ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 6:47 PM

Kieraw Feel free to make another tiger - I'm not jealous of my 'territory'. In fact - if you have any of the Shades of Mike textures you can use those as a base for any freestuff Mike textures (just make sure you mention where the base texture came from). And I made a lion too - but like I said, go ahead and make more :) Lyrra

Kiera ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 7:35 PM

Thanks Lyrra! I wish I had all of your shades of mike textures.. I downloaded a couple to play with, but didn't get around to getting the rest before you lost hosting. =(
