Our pond out back seems to be a "lay over" spot for migrating geese, we've had 15 or more at one time on occasion for a day or two - but we have 2 that come back every year and set up housekeeping for the spring and into the summer, they usually have 4 or 5 chicks around Easter and stay until you can't tell the babies from the parents. Anyway, they arrived today and since it was a gorgeous day for a change, we went down to the dock and I got some pics, and I must say the geese were very cooperative! :-) Nothing but cropping and sizing on the first two, obviously a bunch of PSP on the last!

I think this is the mama, this one tends to be more shy....

Can you ask them when they're coming back home? I'm getting pretty tired of the snow. grin My fave is the second one (because of the reflections), but that third one played a neat eye trick on me.. at first glance I thought it was washing its feathers, and then I noticed the white on its head and realized it's looking to its side.. cool. :) I love the pose on the first one, though. It's taking that elegant look. :) - darkpen

The second one -with all the sharpness, the silhouettes, the symmetry and the composition- is also the one that I like best...
But the first one also draws my attention for its "hurriedly-shot-and-a-definite-snapshot" looks, for the texture on and the curious expression of the animal...
I'm not sure whether this one needs a little bit of contrast or not...
:)

The first one really captures that typical goose expression, love the reflections you got in the second one & the third has a beautiful soft grace to it. Are we going to get some cute baby shots when they arrive I wonder, be hard to resist : )

Glad y'all like them - baby pics will be forthcoming as soon as the babies are! :-) These guys are very friendly, and always trot out the new family for us to admire - in fact, they're so friendly that when they see the lights come on in our kitchen, they come right up on the patio and peck at the sliding door to let us know they're ready for breakfast, LOL!

Don't watch The Birds when they're around. :P - darkpen

Sweet, the second one is my favourite too, I like the expression on the first one's face...the last one is a bit blurry, but that just makes it look painterly!...I don't know how I missed this thread last time...I just adore water birds.
