The Current Events Forum is now closed. It was created for the Sept 11th event. It was a temporary forum and has not been very active the last 8 weeks. thanks tammy

I'd like to say thanks again for having created it in the wake of the event. It provided a good place to express the shock and grief while still surrounded by R'osity friends. And I gotta say, considering what triggered the need for the forum, I'm glad it hasn't been needed a lot since then.

Boy, you just don't want to let us have ANYWHERE to talk about something other than software, do you?

ClintH ( ) posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 8:07 AM

x2000 - If you havent noticed this is a graphics web site and not Yahoo. If you need places to talk about politics or any other things I would suggest some of the open forums on the net. There are hundreds of them out there for this purpose. We also have Chat that you can use to talk wiht other members about pretty much anything you like. Clint

Actually, the banner says "Graphic Artist's Community". If it's just a store now, change the banner. If not, then why shouldn't we have a general forum, a sort of virtual "Community Hall" or whatever? It doesn't have to be Complaint and Debate, but why shouldn't we be able to talk to fellow artists about more than art? These are the people I talk to in the Poser forum and the Bryce forum and etc. etc. We've always been able to before, why is it such a threat now? Because things get too loud and too wild? Fine. Create a new general topic forum, let me be the mod, and I guarantee you that it won't become another C&D. I know Ironbear, and Russ before him, did their best, but that sort of forum needs to be controlled more tightly. There were threads that weren't locked until they had gone far out of control, other threads that should have been locked after the very first post, and certain individuals that just should have been banned from the forum altogether, if not Renderosity itself. You don't have to burn the village to save it. This can work, especially if you start over with a new forum, one where tighter rules are in place from the beginning, instead of taking a "wild west" forum and trying to "civilize" it. Yes, I can go somewhere else, and I guess I'll have to. But I LIKE it here, I like these people (well, most of them...), and I hate seeing this happen, especially for such questionable reasons. As far as Chat goes, I'm just not a Chat person. I prefer forums. Just a personal prejudice. Anyway, that's how I feel. If this is now just a store, let's be honest and drop the "community" facade. And if not, then let's work out a way of having a general topic forum that doesn't resemble a war zone. It can work, and it DOES work at other sites, and it can work here. For whatever it may be worth, I officially volunteer to moderate this theoretical forum. I'm willing to put my money where my big mouth is. I'm willing to do my part for the good of the community. All I need to know is if the community actually exists anymore, or if that's all just a thing of the past, just an empty phrase on a banner...

I DO think that x2000 has some excellent points here, and should be taken very seriously.

I agree. How about "Community Concerns". Start with a clean slate, and all that, with a definite set of guidelines right from the beginning. True, many already know most of them- the "unwritten rules"- but it doesn't hurt to "writ" them, for the newcomers. For instance, if a dispute comes up, remember to take on the argument, not the member. Try to come up with alternatives or solutions, not just vent. Things that most people know, but made plain for those who may not. I don't think this is "just a store", and say so because otherwise it implies certain things on the part of the people who work here. I'm sure that is not the intent. All it will take, I believe, is for the concerned members to show a willingness to take on a little responsibility as a whole. If you have a problem, first contact the person directly, and try to work it out. Give someone the benefit of the doubt before accusing or making incendiary statements. Treat others the way you want them to treat you. That sort of thing. I think this can be an opportunity, not a problem. That's my opinion.

BTW- just my 2 cents... "x2000 - If you havent noticed this is a graphics web site and not Yahoo. If you need places to talk about politics or any other things I would suggest some of the open forums on the net." "Art cannot be created in a vacuum. An essential part of the creative process is the recognition of the impact of worldly events on the human condition, and realising its means of expression." {Me, 2002} ;]

Well said Michelle. I knew there was a reason I like you.

No its not just a store. C&D was a free for all and 80% or more of the posts were not art related. Feel free to use the art forums we have to discuss art. There is this forum for Team Contact issues and the Virtual Tavern where you can kick back and just talk. Complain and Debate just spawned some topics that were to far out there and there were a lot of TOS violations. Try to keep up with all the posts in C&D and ask the children to play nice in the sandbox was a far to big a job. Anyway - C&D is gone and we have oh 30 + other forums to discuss what this site is all about and that is art. Enjoy Renderosity. Clint

I know, Clint- I wasn't trying to sound like I was dictating to you, really. I have been upset, too, by the virulent tendencies that took over C&D. I was just stating that I hope the better elements can carry on. Sorry.

ClintH ( ) posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 8:32 PM

No problem Micheleh, We are just trying to make Renderosity THE best 3D site on the net and C&D was just a little to wild. As we all know this site is to help, display and talk about art 2D and 3D. My comments werent direct towards you at all. They were directed to x2000. We try really hard to make this a nice place for artists to thrive and I think we have that going on pretty well. :) Have a great evening Micheleh. Clint
