Subject: Need help creating tex maps from V2's template.....

I'm trying to create my own skin/body texture for my V2, I know there are different shades of skin colour for a human being, but all the shades i'm creating are usually to pale/grey/washed out (or as my neighbour said "she looks like a Barbie doll!!", BTW she knows nothing about Poser and design, but she does have a point)
Could someone give some RGB values of a skin colour, not pale but slightly tanned, prehaps like my self (i'm half english and half west indian)

And also some tips when colouring in the V2 template, like the eyes and lips, is there a tutorial out there for creating a texture map for body and head from scratch?

Look under the tutorials section, you'll find lots of help there. Also most people are trying for a more tactile look to the textures, like if you touched it you would feel the bumps and scars and whatever. This is done using a bump map, which gets rid of the plastic look. Also look at the lighting and reflection settings these can also cause a plastic look. I don't know what the rgb values would be for the different tones to skin color, I think we are all so different you should just experiment. What I've done is downloaded free texture maps from here and other sites to look at to see how they did it. Lots of people here will jump in to help you but you will have to do a lot of reading and experimenting on your own as well. Best way to do it is to grab Photoshop or Paintshop Pro or whatever paint program you are using and experiment, but make sure you save your original template, and save as you go along. Layers in a paint program save me because I can make little changes that way without destroying the whole thing if I mess it up. It's hard for people to know how to help without knowing how much you already know about the paint program you are using to create the textures. Also, check your lighting. The default Poser lighting makes things a bit muddy grey-brown. A different set of lights might help.

This skin texture was created entirely from scratch. Bear in mind that this is totally subjective but if you want some specific RGB values try these: 220,153,115 and 228,168,133. Why two? Simple. Put one on the left button and one the right and airbrush them over the whole area in a speckled fashion. It adds a skin-like texture that stops the plastic look on skin. Put it on one layer and add detail on another. If you can use layers it helps to put the mesh picture at the top and have it set to a minimum transparency so you can just see the mesh at all times. Do not place too much importance on skin colour as you can always adjust the base colour on Victoria from white and lighting will make a huge difference anyway. I`ve bought textures that look awful, but when they are lit Wow!

I was cleaning off my HD yesterday and actually found a chart just for skin colors, I don't remember where I found it, would be more than happy to either email it or post it if anyone is interested. Just let me know.

You could use the Vicky seam guide lurking in Free Stuff by Snow Sultan... That's what I've been playing with as a base (you tack on layers over it until you have what you want - skinbase layer, highlight layer, bodyhair, nipples/creases/palm creases/etc.) /P

This is about the range of skintones that Supermodel Vickie uses in her texture maps. A lot of caucasion flesh tones that I've seen look very yellow, most are lighter than this set, too. SMVs maps were all hand painted, BTW, some do it that way, no photos harmed in the making of! Normal range of skintones (all skintones) are low saturation reds, oranges and yellows. Too low in saturation and they do start looking gray, though. I often do my skintones so the darks go tward red (or even magenta) and the hilights tward yellow.

Thanxs to everyone for their input, i shall try out these colours, i've managed to create some skin colours myself from fair to dark and i think they look okay. But all they need now is some definition,prehaps making the skin suface not to look the same colour throughout the entire body, thats the hard part. (oh god i can't do this!!!)
