Do sheriff's badges always have a star with 6 points? If so what does it mean?

Man, I just got done downloading that great butterfly! I've been looking for more western stuff. Yeah, I think most sheriff's stars have six points, but that could be just a "Hollywood" standard. I have a bunch of old western comics and some have five points, some have six. I know here in California, all law enforcement that have a "star" badge have seven points and, while I once knew what that meant, I've long since forgotten. Someone around here is likely to know though. And thanks! I'm a fan! Larry F

getting to where i have to drop by F&F more and more these days. thanks a lot Gerald. by the way i haven't read about super conforming figures yet. wazzup with that? I see you say nailed in place. gonna check it out. :)
