Well. Ahem. My browser ate my first attempt at this post, so now it's going to be blissfully short because I have no clue what I babbled about the first time. Working on visual character studies to accompany a joint venture fiction project. One is done to death in my galleries. Started work on the guys. Michael 2 is great, but the boy needs some clothes that fit before my husband takes Poser away from me. Guess I shouldn't have used the nude wallpaper, eh? Anyway ... This character is only loosely based on some of the physical characteristics of the guy in the photo (Michael Weatherly). My biggest problem right now is trying to figure out how to shorten the length of the entire face without vanishing the jawling or making him look like an alien. Any idea which dial I'm not finding to shorten the face? I know there's the FaceLong dial, but it doesn't seem to work quite as I need it to. I mean, compare the really short face of someone like Clint Eastwood with the basic Michael head -- don't work.

Why are all these poor Poser men in need of Steve Dallas' chest mascara or an Austin Powers chest wig? Poor poor bald male bodies. Sob.

Try playing with, and between the xScale and yScale for the head. Don't know, just a suggestion. cheers, dr geep ;=]

And close the eyes slightly to give them that squinty look in the photo. Aside from that, youre doing a fab job.

And remember that you can enter negative values on many of the dials.

shadowcat ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 12:10 AM

face long to the negative

geep ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 12:26 AM

... some people put TWO parameter dials for an MT and one says "long" and the other says "short" and if you crank 'em both up to "1", they just cancel each other out. Anybody know why this is done? Huh, huh, huh?????????? ;=]

Nice work. I think the only real problems are the nose and the eyebrows. Also try to attach the upper part of the ears more to the head. Then the face would appear longer.

I hate to say this, but the model looks more like Ted Danson than Michael Weatherly. Not that looking like Ted Danson is a BAD thing, mind you... g Kate (who is thinking "hubba hubba")

Good job ! Sharen

DgerzeeBoy ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 4:45 AM

The "y" axis will shorten the length of the head...x will widen, z will deepen.

Droools Oh that is fantastic!!! Drools Yeah, know exactly what you mean, think my husband is already considering that option ;) Which is evil because I've seen what he's done with Eve ;) Lilfox

Heh, the character is only loosely based on several real folks as far as looks go, but Weatherly had the right (scary!) jaw structure to really give me a place to start. I guess I could have tried Viggo Mortenson, but in his usual buzzcut that shows the jaw, the man scares me. O.o! Went back and fixed most of it accordingly. After staring at the thing for a couple of days, I end up missing little stuff, so it's GREAT to have them pointed back out. Of course, then I sit here rolling my eyes that I missed it, like a doofus. As far as the head shortening goes, I've tried most everything suggested. The results just didn't look right up close, but it might have been a case of me trying too MUCH at once to get the effect. Here's the version I finally went with, and Syyd (and the partner with no Poser but money to buy me parts) came to the rescue on the body texture. Adam is a dream come true for this one. I also ditched the tank. It was worse than the bare chest, so I'll just wait until I finally figure out magnets for clothes, or someone releases a morphing dress shirt for Michael. I guess I'm just going to have to find the local bikers in my area and pay em 20 bucks to get naked and hairy and create some more Michael textures. I'm sure THAT idea will thrill hubby to bits.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 4:35 PM

I still think he looks like Ted Danson (who, btw, is just yummy, IMO)

MadYuri ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 4:42 PM

I think it is the wedge cut. This thing makes a Ted Danson out of everything. ;)

CryptoPooka ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 4:44 PM

Looks like time for me to give in and go for the gel hair. Ah, the possibilities.

Syyd ( ) posted Tue, 05 February 2002 at 7:29 AM

Ted Danson out of everything lol....Its the long face....this is a toughy, I tried making sam neill last week and couldn't even come close, then I tried russell crowe. Let me monkey a bit....I would say if you want this to look like the photograph first you might try Catharina's Kain texture, its got the color and eyes, which is a good way to get enthused. This is very good though....Ted Danson is still handsome too......

CryptoPooka ( ) posted Tue, 05 February 2002 at 1:12 PM

I tried Kain, and he just didn't work quite right. Needed the eyes amber for this dude anyway. And your Adam was just perfect in the long run. :) I'm incoherent today. Maybe it's the snow we're getting (had to retype snow 5 times, good lord).

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Tue, 05 February 2002 at 1:31 PM

Oooh, you mean I'm not the only one out here who thinks Sam Niell is just yummy? =) (and then there's Tom Selleck, James Garner [when he was younger] and...)

Syyd ( ) posted Tue, 05 February 2002 at 2:38 PM

Kate, SAM NEILL is da bomb! Oh......I bought the Merlin tape just to see him OVER AND OVER AGAIN.... Remember Tom Selleck when he was selling Marlboro cigarettes???? And then of course James Garner, and the Rockford Files......Sheesh....oldies but damned good ones!
