Subject: Just an idea - Face Randomizer?

SnowSultan ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 10:00 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 12:52 PM

Hi. Forgive me if this idea has already been mentioned before, but I just thought someone might be interested in it. Would it be possible to make a small program that could randomize facial morph setting values and save the result as a FC2 (face) file? You would need to be able to set maximum values though (haha, otherwise the character's head would probably explode), but if you entered very low values, it could probably come up with some interesting random faces. Being able to set min and max values for each morph would be even better, but I think just being able to enable or disable morphs to be randomized would be perfectly fine.

Anyway, just an idea for any bored programmers out there, assuming it hasn't been done already. :) Take care!

Hehe, I have this already. Every time I touch a dial I have a random result. :P There were some Python scripts from bushi for the Pro Pack which do this. But I think bushi and his site are gone now.

Oh man, that would have been great, love that idea.

Mason ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 10:18 AM

Someone has a Pro Pack script that does just that. Check the Python forum.

Do a search in this forum for "random" you will find a program that did this. It may be Bushi's; I cannot remember

LOL, so I'm not the only one? ;)

Mason, I don't have the Pro Pack, that's why I mentioned this as a possible accessory program. :)

Just to play devil's advocate here, why would you want this? I mean, when I'm constructing something, the shape and look of the face is just as important as the clothing the character wears in terms of saying something about who and what this person is. And when I get one I want to use on a regular basis, like Maurys assistant for example, I already have the MTs and dial settings saved as part of the character in the library. I dunno, maybe its just me, but a randomizer would seem to be the kind of thing thats short-term in its usefulness.

This idea might have more than one use. Load a pose, face, light setting, whatever in this randomizer program. Make some adjustments, click a button and you get a new file with changed parameters.

MadYuri ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 10:33 AM

@VirtualSite Hehe, now our cover is blown. ;)

cwshorty ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 11:01 AM

Well sometimes, I don't know what I'm trying to create, I'd like to sit down and just see what I can come up with and if there is a randomizer, why not. I wouldn't rely solely on it but I think it might be nice to have.

Take a look at my "squirmy" script, which should still be around. This randomizes all movable parts within certain limits, and at random times, resulting in anything from a natural-looking occasional twitch to a grand-mal convulsion, depending on settings. It doesn't act on all facial parameters, but could easily be modified to do that. Look up "squirm" in this forum and you should find the thread containing this script; a few weeks back, if I recall right.

Variesh has a product in the store called Face it for Victoria that lets you try different eye setting noses, lips, etc. I use it a lot the tweak from there :)

Check the utilities under freebies at 3D Commune, They have the randomizer there.

VS, I just like the idea to use a random face as a base that I can fine-tune to whatever I want. Or like cwshorty said, just see what comes up and work from there. V2 and M2 have so many facial morphs now that it can almost be tedious to go through them all looking for an eye-catching combination. Thanks for all your comments so far too, take care. SnowS

Oops looks like the site for the download is down. Oh well thanks anyway.

I remember Bushi was adding features to his original freebie, that would let your include/exclude dials from the randomizing mix and set upper and lower limits - really nice. I was going to buy it, but he had major job problems and hasn't been around in months. Hope things work out and we see him again.

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 7:33 PM

It would be nice to have a randomizer for non PP users. Who wrote morphmanager? Seems like a good place to start :) Lets bug him for it :) Lyrra
