Subject: Stepping back and reloading....

I just spend several several minutes going through my poser directories trying to find a character and started to realize just how messy my poser folder is. Part of the problem is my computer which is in the process of dying. I have been loading poser back on the harddrive from my backup CD's. The problem is of course getting the backups mixed up so that I didn't load the most current or I forgot to save a file to backup or something like that. I have about decided it might me better to just start completely over and redo the whole shobang. That way I get things where I want them and and can find them. One of the more annoying things is to find I have a character or prop and no texture map to go with it or visa versa. Has anyone else gone through the trouble of starting over and if so was it worth it? butch

Yes, and yes. My Poser folder was what you might call a right royal wreck, but a corrupt file necessitated a complete reinstall. As long as you 've got everything important backed up, it's worth a good tidy now and again. The program loads up faster, you don't have to go searching through all those texture files for which you have not a clue what they are to find that one you know is in there someplace... the only sad thing for me is that I lost that lovely Cloth Strip that used to be in Freestuff here. I really liked that. It's not available anymore. Apart from that I've found the whole thing to be leaner and meaner after a good scouring!

I always find it easier to keep unnecessary textures and .obj files stashed outside of the Poser4 directory... That way, I index them by type and use, and re-installing Poser doesn't mean re-installing all those tex, MT, and .obj files (I also include MT's and 3rd-Party .pz3 files in my 'external stash.') My directory tree WRT Poser looks a little like this: 3D_WIP poser_resources poser_utils Poser4 "_resources" contains textures, MT's and all the other stuff that doesn't absolutely have to reside in Poser. "_utils"contains Crossroads, UVMapper, etc etc... only PHI Builder resides within Poser4 (and only because it has to.) "3D_WIP" is a place where I stash all the active .pz3, .dxf, .obj, and other files when I'm building stuff either in Poser (art) or for Poser (modelling.) It makes backups easier, restores easier, and helps keep it all organized to boot. HTH a little, /P
