Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 10 10:34 am)
Rob, I'm assuming you're still in the Navy? First off... and I hope I don't sound to hokey... Thank You for you dedication to us all, not for your Poser work (which is monumental enough) but for you continued service to most of us as a nation. If you're not still in the Navy... ditto in past tense. Ron Kniggitss ;) Sounds pretty cut and dry to me... don't change the the figure names from the default settings. Change back your Jill and Marlin figure names. I don't understand what your question is in message 5? Doug
I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.
Ron, What he's referring to is the CR2 file itself. Just open one up in a text editor and you'll see what he means...You will see something like the following right near the top: actor hip:1 ...this references the part hip. All the body parts in a CR2 are referred to in this way. See the number 1 following the colons? Those are what he is saying needs to be changed to a 1. For example if the parts are: hip:2 abdomen:2 etc. ...you will need to change it to: hip:1 abdomen:1 etc. Somewhere in that CR2 file will also be the figure name... If it's not given a specific name in the CR2 like 'MyFigureName' it will most likely be: Figure 1, Figure 2, etc. He is saying that this needs to be 'Figure 1' The body parts and figure names are found throughout the file so the best way would be to do a search and replace. If at the top of the CR2 it says actor hip:3, then you know it's using the number 3...so search for ':3' and replace with ':1'. Likewise do a search for 'Figure 3' and replace with 'Figure 1' Hope this cleared it up for you.... Lourdes
Hi Ron, [Is there a list of items that I need to search and replace?] It's a pretty big long list of things so just do a search and replace for it like I mentioned in post 8. If the number following the colon in your CR2 is 3, then do a search for ':3' and replace with ':1', do a search for 'Figure 3' and replace with 'Figure 1' [Would I only need to do this if I changed my characters to Marlin, Jill, etc?] From what I understand, yes...but you can rename them once they're loaded in your scene....I'm assuming that you have them saved to the library as CR2 files. [When I load the null figure, then load Marlin (or whomever), I get that question about whether I should keep the figure's proportions.] Use the double check mark (Create New Figure) for loading the character...and you won't get that prompt. Remember that you're not adding the first figure to the scene if you've loaded the null...so adding Marlin or whomever after you load the null should be done in the same way as when adding a second or third figure to a scene. That prompt is for replacing the current figure with the one your loading... Lourdes
ok i am a bit lost ... Ive used the Milnull file , that works ok for me for getting my milenuim peeps in with there unique body properties intact. until i wish to save / reload the *.pz3 file thats when it all goes kablewy on me : ( anyway to fix that ?I tried a scene with 4 peeps ,alot of work , and had to save. Then came back to find it was all a waste of time when i reloaded : ( pardon my french but cross talk really sucks !
Ron, Yup, use the search and replace...search for 'Marlin' and replace with 'Figure 1'. The numbers you would still have to change...so check what the number is at the top of the CR2 and do a search/replace for that... jwkub, The updated tutorial explains that....it goes step by step on how to load them so that your pz3's don't get messed up. Rob, I'd like to thank you as well for all your contributions... Lourdes
I have no problem of such! I just load the "Null Loader" in a totaly "Empty scene", then select the "Body" of the Null loader & load Vicky. Then select "body" of Null Loader again, etc... And those "mil" figures are not "prepped" in any special way. They even have clothes & props already set to them... But, jwkub is right! Saving it in a .pz3 file wrecks everything! Now, i just save my characters with their clothing & Hair Save the Poses for relevant figures & props... Actually makes it easier & faster that way, then just saving as .pz3 & then Loading a 100 meg file! So, is it because i always select the "Body" of the Null Loader before loading the next "mil" figure or that i always start from a "completely Empty" scene each time??? I wish i knew... I'll have to run some tests this weekend to accertain this! Hope that by comparing notes, we can find a "stable" solution! Tada! Anik
Xena,
My pleasure. Really. Continually striving for 'more' is something I've had breed into me... this affords me an outlet for that.
Ron,
I apologize for not responding to this thread sooner, but it looks as though a few others have beat me to the punch. They have done a fine job of reiterating the meaning in my words. They deserve, and have, my gratitude. I hope that their efforts have helped you understand what can [obviously] be difficult to understand to begin with.
Doug,
To answer your question, yes, I am still in the Navy... although, I'm literally a few days away from beginning my "terminal leave". After 8.5 years of honorable service, for a number of reasons, I've decided to pursue another facet of my career. Please, don't worry about your comment sounding hokey. I truly appreciate the sentiment and thank you for your acknowledgment. I am very proud to have served.
Scott,
Thank you. I think, perhaps, the link should point to the document without the target [#update] included, so the viewer starts at the beginning vice the middle.
Jeff,
Within the "Crosstalk" section of the linked document is a sub-section titled "And then there was NONE." This is where the updated steps ,using the null approach to preserve control in unique figures, are located. Provided you follow the steps as I've written them, your saved scene file (.pz3) will load correctly.
Mark,
Thank you, for such kind words. I hope the work I've done makes everyone else's work easier (while still providing increased functionality). :)
Lourdes,
My thanks. You've done quite well turning my techno-babble into 'english' so that Ron (and perhaps others who are lurking) might understand a bit more.
Anik,
You are correct in that the Millennium figures, by default, do not need to be prepped. This is due to the fact that while developing these techniques, my conversations with the folks at DAZ (regarding my work with ERC and the null approach) enabled them to make a conscious decision to use that information in said products. During the initial beta, the figures did not incorporate my findings... nor did they function predictably with the null. The final product does.
As I pointed out to Jeff, above, there are a different set of steps to follow with the intention of saving the scene.
It is because of both. The new scene restarts poser's internal count for instances and figures to 1. Selecting body, which btw has never included an ounce of geometry, is a constant that provides poser a way to see that sequential instances (which it creates upon loading) are taken and in turn assigns the next in line, regardless of figure type.
A stable solution is what I'm presenting. Again, read the steps under the "And then there was NONE." Be sure to read all of the steps and the following note.

Ron! What Rob & i said is confusing indeed! Even for i! LOL Ok! When Daz first released the Mil figures(Meaning the very first versions prior to the free updates, .cr2 only), they would behave erracticely with the "null Loader"! Any "updated Version" & subsequent ones(V2 & M2) still require the "null Loaders" to prevent "Crosstalk"!! But, they now behave constantly!! Hope this clears things a bit for you! And Rob!! Very innovative & Logical idea for making .pz3 files reusable!! I've tried it last night 7 works great!! My Brother handed me a copy of that "Cr2 Bible" in printed form! Very interesting! Later!! Anik

Much discussion has revolved around the infamous crosstalk syndrome inherent in poser figures which use ERC technology in recent weeks. Life has been in a bit of a spin cycle lately (not all bad, just extremely busy) with a major life change on the horizon, so finding the time to update documentation on ERC has been hard to come by. Having had a few days now of the spin cycle briefly letting up, I finally had a chance to sit down and update my online doc. I've not only reformatted a few things, but I've also included a little history for those who are new to the advanced techniques and are not aware of who/when/where/how/why this all started. In addition, I've added an update that indicates the steps to solve crosstalk. Yes, it's not a typo... solves crosstalk.I suspect that those inclined to test my methods may have questions. I would like to answer as much as possible, but I ask that if you pose questions... that you be patient for a response (at least for one from me specifically). I don't like bringing attention to something technical in nature and then not being around to answer questions... but given all that is currently happening in my everyday life, it would be foolish of me to say "I will be here" and then not be.
Thanks for your time.
