Congratulations! Go forth and create!

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 9:02 AM

Excellent, Jon! As for the upgrades, you're safe with up to 4.03-02. If I were you, I wouldn't go to 4.05 just yet, but that's only because of a few minor problems. Fortunately, it's easy to revert back to 4.03 by copying the contents of the "Back" folder (which is created when you update) into the main Vue directory. Have fun!

Vue cannot seem to find them. I sent an e-mail to tech support last night and have not gotten a response. Being the impatient sort, I thought I'd ask here in hopes that it's somewhat commnon and you all will know how to set me straight. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer. They show up in the Windows explorer just fine, but Vue shows the Help directory as being empty and says it can't find them. jon

Hiya jon, The Help file should be in the main Vue directory. It isn't? Did you maybe do a custom install and not install the Help? In any event on the Application CD, there's a folder called Help. Under that, is a folder called Us with the Help file and a few other files like vue4.era, vue4.erd, etc. Try copying those from the CD and pasting them into the main Vue directory. Not the folder, just the files. I don't know if that will work, but it might.

jstro ( ) posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 6:05 PM

No, no. The help files are all there at C:Program FilesVue d'EspritHelp I can clearly see them from the Windows explorer. But from within Vue itself the application reports them as not being found and when I drive to them follwing the above path, it shows the Help directory as empty. Standard install. Accepted all the defaults. Then installed the 4.03 full upgrade. I even exited all my other applications prior to installation. :) I take it this is not all that common then? :( Hope tech support responds soon. jon

Hmmm... I don't know what to tell you, because I don't even have a "Help" folder, just the files, and as I said, they're all in the main directory and not in a folder. Could be because you have a newer version, and a newer CD, maybe. Have you tried just sticking them in the main directory, or is Vue specifically telling you something like, "can't find help in C:Program FilesVue d'EspritHelp" ?

jstro ( ) posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 6:27 PM

Ahh! I think you're on to something. I have a help folder, chock full 'o helpful stuff, but not a Vue4.hlp file anywhere on the system. My guess is Vue4.hlp calls up all the helpful stuff but is itself missing. I'll look on the CD and see if I can find it there. If so, I'll stick it in the main Vue dir and see what happens. Thanks Mike, I think you got me going in the right direction. Here is the error message in total by the way: Cannot find the C:Program FilesVUE D'ESPIRITVue4.hlp file. Do you want to try to find this file yourself? jon

Yeah, there you go. That's strange that it didn't load it with the "Typical" install though. Maybe a bug or an error on the CD? Let's just hope it works. :)

jstro ( ) posted Mon, 18 February 2002 at 8:43 AM

Just a follow up to let you all know there was a satisfactory resolution to my little problem. A guy named Steve from Vue's technical support sent me an e-mail sugesting that perhaps I had "gone backwards" by installing the 4.03 patch and that I should uninstall and reinstall Vue. I did that, and now everything works. I have Vue 4.04-02, so I guess I did miself a disservice by patching it. Live and learn. Thanks all. jon

Ahh, so that's where the 4.04 went to - the newer CDs! Heh, we didn't know, Jon, but now it makes sense. Thanks for giving us the update! :)
