How do I put in a transparency on a flat surface? Example: a lampshade made of steel with holes. Looking for tutorial or individual help. thanks, Ironhart.

Thank yopu for the link. It seems I am not doing something else correctly, though the link you sent me to was less than informative. I appreciate the help and am at this point convinced it must be my lack of knowledge in another area. I suspect UVmapper and it's use might be my stumbling block. Thank you again for the attempted help. any other advice is most welcome. Ironhart

Do a black and white "texture" map.

WHITE will show up when rendered.

BLACK will NOT show up when rendered.

Load the "texture" map (i.e., transmap) in the proper place.

[menu] "Render" ----> "Materials"

Set the "transparency slider" max to 100%
Set the "transparency slider" min to 0%
Set the "transparency slider" falloff to 0%

... and it should work.

Note: the effect of transmaps will not show up until the picture is rendered.

Geep! that's it! But I get nothing. God, I must sound dumb. But believe me I've tried everything I can think of. It is important to me just to know that it can be done. I guess I'll stumble onto it eventually, but I hope when I do I remember how I got there. Thanks, Ironhart Still trying............

What you need to do is ...

  1. export the prop as an "helmut.obj" file
  2. load "helmut.obj" into UVMapper
  3. [menu] "load model" <------ "helmut.obj"
  4. [menu] "Edit" ----> "New UV Map" ----> "Cylindrical cap"
  5. [menu] "Save Model"
  6. [menu] "Save Texture Map"

Now you have a tex map that will show you the locations on your new prop. Just "paint" the areas that you want transparent "BLACK."

Save the "map."

Start Poser.
Load the new "map."
Set dials as shown above and ....
... you should be in business.
