Subject: Superman Hair

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 10 February 2002 at 7:05 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 10:31 AM

Has anyone done a Superman style hair with the curl in front that has a texture to it? The one on the superman figure I have looks like the untextured Poser style hair. Thanks

Are you a member of the 3D-CC? It's a fine group and they've got several Superman figures available to the membership. One of them might do the trick. Good luck.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 10 February 2002 at 7:15 PM

Yeah, but haven't found one that is textured...at least not that I have seen.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Sun, 10 February 2002 at 7:26 PM

You won't find one that is textured just that way. The ones available in 3d-cc are about all there is unless you want to tackle it yourself.

Hey virtualSite, Yeah, I've noticed that already. I did save one as an obj file, opened it in UVMapper and saved it as a texture map but when it comes to doing a hair texture....well, let's just say a blindfolded gorilla with both hands tied behind his back could do a better job of it.

Hair is tough. I got a WIP from a fellow artist here that Iv been trying to build a texture for for about two weeks, and it's tough. Still, you look at some of the stuff out there, like anything by Neftis, and you know it can be done.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 10 February 2002 at 7:41 PM

Oh yeah, I see it's tough. And Neftis does some fantastic work on hair, although, there are some parts of the hair that really looks out of place (or a little wild, so to speak)like in the back. Other than that, Neftis is doing a fine job of making some new hair styles for Michael.

I guess you would need to find some one who textures hair... and has a hankering for 3d superheroes.... hmmmm now who made some textures for vicki's gel cut recently at daz? and who's made a few versions of superman?

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Sun, 10 February 2002 at 9:31 PM

Gosh, Struk, I dunno. Who ya gonna call? =)

cherokee69 ( ) posted Mon, 11 February 2002 at 5:27 AM

Hum...I guess that would be STURKWURK.....Ah would you take one of the good Superman hairs and do a texture map for it so it'll look more like hair instead of this blob of stuff on his head.....PLEASE! Thanks

sturkwurk ( ) posted Mon, 11 February 2002 at 8:16 AM

I'll add it to my "to do" list... first I have to get a Mil Green Arrow back up again. The supes won't have a trans map, but the texture will help a little. Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

I didn't notice it until ya mentioned it.  superman hair is noted for being solid black with what
appear to be blue hi-lites, which are actually some kind of diffractive or reflective fx IIRC.
anyway, that's how cartoonists always draw superman or wonderwoman hair.

AprilYSH ( ) posted Wed, 01 September 2010 at 9:07 PM

the big blue boy scout is my allll time favourite superhero ;) I thought the blue-ish highlights was important too! :)  this pic is not Superman but the hair I modelled based on his hair. http://shop.aprilsvanity.com/images/uploads/rievel/rievelhair.jpg

Not so much now DC has caught up with technology.  Depending on the art team, Supes's hair is usually coloured in a more realistic style.
