Hi guys,

I pulled up an old project I started long ago and decided to finish it off this weekend. It's a mech version of H.R. Gigers alien figure. Well, sort of. I decided to do a robot version of the alien because I thought it would look cool with reflection maps like chrome and gold. I decided not to do any UVmapping on this figure becuase I liked the way you could just attach a texture and it would wrap around the figure in cool ways. (see image in next thread).

I was thinking of putting this up as a freebie if anybody is interested. I still want to make a few add-ons like tubes for the back like the original alien creature from the movies.

Your comments are welcome and appreciated.

Here is a simple giger texture I found on the internet, I applied it to the figure and it was nicely spread over the model. No uvmapping is used other than what is naturally exported from Rhino.

That's one great thing about rhino, it's default mapping is nice and flat. ;) The alien looks pretty spiffy too there Davo... What's the body part breakdown? And how posable is it? Like the hands?

Very cool. It needs that second telescoping jaw, though. Or perhaps the mechanical equivalent, like a circular sawblade that comes out of its mouth or something.

the hands are posable, there are 3 claws each hand. This is an old project, so I didn't do fancy things like the telescoping jaw, I tried to keep this as low-density as possible, it's already a large mesh, unfortunately, but it looks damn cool I think. The neck assembly is posable, the hands are posable, the arms and legs are posable, the feet rotate in the x direction, the tail is a posable add-on. This was originally designed to be a techo-DJ for a Rave Club scene, but the person who was going to pay me for it lost the bid on his project and wasn't going to pay me, so here it is. Davo

I'd like to see a longer, sharper muzzle, and toes on the feet. Two of them. Other than that it's splendid.

I think it looks better with the Giger texture; it gives it the illusion of burnished metal.

It is more dangerous-looking with the Giger texture, but the new-minted chrome job is nice, too. I think this is definately cool, and am sorry that the guy commissioning it lost the ability to pay for it.

A very interesting adoption of H.R.Giger's spledid work. I feel it will prove to be awfully popular, in case you do release it as a freebie :)

Davo, excellent work as usual!!! I like the originality of what you've created; I wouldn't change too much except maybe to add the pipes coming out of the back like you mentioned....... This is great, I love the way the textures work! Krel

Thanks for the comments guys :-) I got some add-on tubes for the back and I may make some add-on toe claws as well before putting this up for free. The main body (tail not included) is a cr2 that access the obj in the geometries folder, so if anybody was interested in actually making a uvmapped version of this, it would be fairly simple. I just don't have the time right now to do that. I'll try to have this up in the next day or so. Davo
