Darn it, I can't find anything today! There USED to be a transmap in freebies for dredlocks. AND there used to be some dredlocks on the Marketplace too. For the life of me I can't find either, and I can't find the transmap on any of my CD's and don't remember which hair it went to..... never bought the hair in the MP, as it was for Posette and Dork Not all of the MP items have been catagoirzed yet...... I don't think it still may show up there. April's hair would be great for dreds though, I think.

Judith, generally, any hair can be used on any character. I've used hair that was originally created for the P4Man and Woman on Vicki and Mike. It only requires a little resizing and placement adjustment. I remember seeing some dreads somewhere, too, but I don't think they were free. I would like to see someone make a good one, even a sale item. It's one thing I've seen many requests for, but hardly any response from modelers. If I could model, I would try it, but I'm still a beginner with modeling. Melanie
I haven't found a need for dreds yet, or I'd be raising my hand too :)) At the time I saw them I didn't know you could resize. All my hair is sized for the mil people now.... some of it I just couldn't stand to give up..... so I resized it. Dreds were something on my "I shoud have, just in case" list LOL!! Needless to say that list changes and grows as I browse the MP. The wishlist function they added is going to send me to the poorhouse.

AprilYSH's Spiral Curls hairstyle is perfect for dreadlocks, and is only $5 at 3-D Arena. Well worth the price. You could probably fit it to male characters with minimum effort. Look here for preview pictures.
whitemexican has some dreadlocks for male characters here at the Marketplace. He had some in Free Stuff but I think they've been removed.
You can find a dreadlock texture and bump map in the Free Stuff over at 3D Commune by GnarkLeFourbe, but it doesn't come with an actual hair object.

hey thanks for the plug queri, judith, CryptoPooka and Little_Dragon :)
i find using a lower res texture on it makes it rougher looking and gives that overcooked look dreads have.
i didn't include a really low res texture though... but i can tell you how to make one. in photoshop fill a layer in white and have black and white selected as your colours, then add noise. then it's just a matter of motion blurring to the correct angle to the template... at a distance of about 15 pixels on the original template size, if i recall correctly. then do adjust hue/colourise to what colour you need. when rendered, this looks all pixelated and rough like dreads. (this is why i didn't use this method for the textures cos i wanted a smooth real hair look, so i stroked each strand in there by hand! haha)
that's how i made this rough texting texture.
but don't be misled, that model is NOT the final model of spiral curls hair you'll find at 3-darena. this was a messy starter for the model and the front didn't work properly. i'm just showing it for the texture illustration :)

um, conform them to "sit" on the male heads? i haven't... and i don't have mike. but i've seen renders of it used like a normal hair prop on mike! i suppose like a normal hair prop people load it, place it, and "parent" it instead of "conform" it. i guess you'd have to do x/y/z sizing to fit too. hmm... by the way, is "conforming" worth the trouble or is "parenting" the preferred method? cos for "conforming" i needed to include separate cr2s for each model it conformed to!

The free transmap at 3dcommune is for one of Anton's models... perhaps the curly pony tail?... whatever he used to illustrate his 18th century man's outfit. If I can make a request of the hair modelers? Please show a view FROM THE BACK, especially if you put it in the marketplace. Almost all hair looks decent from the front, but we need hair which looks right from all angles. Carolly
Confuscious (sp) had dreads in the marketplace here - but I do prefer April's as they aren't such a memory hog and don't take nearly as long to render. Besides I can change april's easily to suit different needs (yes I own 3-D Arena - but I still prefer April's) as in my post below "Drowess"

Pilot - thanks for the white mophead. I need to fringe a belt soon and it'll help a great deal :) And I should mention the braids texture/trans for Vicki's fliphair. Think it went with a freebie Vik character named Nile - but I'm not sure. It's not what you're looking for - more the neat ladylike braids you'd see at the office. But I figured to add it to this thread for completeness :) Lyrra
