Hi all, Our "Light and Optics" contest is over, the judges have voted and the winner is ... *drums roll* Otis4, with his teapot image ! Very cool image : a great use of environment lighting and overall, a superb render ! Congratulations Otis :) . Because the Power Pack v2 isn't finished yet, you will have the opportunity to play with the beta until you receive the final version before everyone else . Have fun ! Thanks to the judges, JWB and Brian Retford, and of course to the numerous members who have entered the contest . It has been definitely a new best score, with 41 submissions . And some great quality images :) . The next contest will begin in a few days, so stay tuned ! litst contest manager

Congratulations, Otis! Very nice image. Definitely shows that Carrara can stand up to the big boys when used well. Beautiful render!

Hi Otis, As one of the judges, I really appreciated the careful composition of your image, the great use of shadows and the environmental lighting feature available in Cararra. Your use of color and textures on the model and sky combine to create a very quiet and subtle feel to great affect. Congratulations. JWB

JWB, Thanks for your vote and your kind words. Ever since I started using Carrara I've been convinced that it is capable of some amazing renders, the kind that could stand toe-to toe with the big boys. There are some great Carrara artists out there (litst, Mark Bremmer, Joakim Eklund, Brian Taylor to name a few), but we don't have as large of a user base as the "Big Boys". That will change as Eovia grows as a company (bring on C2) and as users become adept at using the program and its extensions to their fullest. Carrara is still young, but the potential is there. We need to get out there and show it, though. There are some great 3D sites and galleries that don't seem to even acknowledge Carrara. That needs to change. Get out there, do great work, and show it off. -Otis
